Wal-Mart to skirt size limit by building side-by-side storesI'm disgusted, but not really surprised. While watching our city government try to keep Super Wal-mart from Flagstaff, I've really noticed how well they fight fire with fire. Well that sounds pretty smart on Wal-Mart's part. Actually that sounds like something I would do... waaaah, your stores are too big. Ok, I'll build two small ones right next to each other.

And why is the city government trying to keep Super Wal-Mart out of Flagstaff? Seriously, the fact that the regular Wal-Mart is the only place open in the city 24 hours a day that isn't also a Denny's gives it a huge selling advantage over any other store in the city, and makes it a great late-night hangout for college students. I think the introduction of a Super Wal-Mart would be... super.

I want to keep them out because they charge low wages, and their "associates" are very bad at customer service. Most retail stores have low wages, but Super Wal-Mart is also a grocery store. Grocery store cashiers typically make a few bucks/hr more than retail cashiers. I'd like grocers to continue to make a decent living. Also, decent wages keep people off welfare, which costs taxpayers money.

But you're right, opening two stores side-by-side is very clever. I did have a laugh about it at first.
