Also note that if bookverse had let Imoen become a mage, like she was supposed to, this whole thing would've been resolved by Imoen casting Dimension Door and getting

Doesn't she actually end up as a rather famous archmage, at the end of ToB? If you have her in your party, the ending screens of 'and this is what happened to them'.

Yep--in the epilogue she hangs out with Elminster and Khelben "Blackstaff." And she actually calls herself an archmage during ToB, but so do Aerie and Nalia.

Technically they all have valid claims, since they become epic-level mages during ToB and throw around 10th-level spells. ("Archmage" as a PrC only showed up when PrCs showed up in 3E.)
