I sooo agree with you. I know someone who never went on his honeymoon b/c he said he never had the time. WHAT?! that's crazy. You tell your employers that you NEED your honeymoon and you just go. They will figure out a way to deal with you not being there - yeah I too thing it's an ego thing. but hey, it's his loss not mine.
I didn't really mean it as an ego thing, just that sometimes people get so strung out with work that they can't separate from it. I used to not be able to separate 'life' from 'work'. Everything was the same. I lived for work, and work was life. I think it's sad that we lose so much life because of work, duty to work, and stress related to work. We need to apply the breaks and see the fruits of our labour.
I used to fall into this catagory, and have found out (in a good way) that my life does not have to be dictated to by my job. Leaveing the Uni is the best thing I've ever decided to do. I just wish more people realized the value of free time!
I don't stay behind late on my summer placement, but I have a sneaky feeling when I do engineering properly I may be one of those unfortunate souls with not quite enough brains to get everything done by 5, and yet just about enough brains not to want to give up. This is my life's predicament.
