And so it ends

Well, the person I've been upset with has taken me off her top 8 friends on my space, unsubscribed from my blog there, and will not answer any emails from me. Not sure if she found this blog somehow, or if I didn't really make all the blogs private that I thought I did on my space. However I do know I mentioned to one of the girls I talked about ( Read more... )

You're taking off on a FRIDAY?!?!?! How dare you?
(I heard from another modern language teacher that you guys now have to ASK PERMISSION to be sick on Fridays. Stupid.)

Oh no, that was last year's policy, it's even worse this year. We now have to call our principal for ANY day of the week we are going to be sick. Because they changed to having to call for Mondays or Fridays, and their absences on those days went down but went way up on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays. Which, duh? What else did they think would happen? As long as you fill out the paperwork 5 days in advance though, for any day of the week, as long as it's not the day before or after a holiday break, you can get that day off. So I asked for that day off the first week of school because I already had tickets for the concert that I may or may not now go to.

I'm so miserable teaching this year, I will probably take all my "personal" days if I can. I would also take every opportunity to get out of the building I could, except I don't want to do any science stuff since I don't want to teach science anymore.

All that does is encourage sick teachers to come to work sick, and make kids sick. I wouldn't call the principal at 6am to describe my illness. None of his business. What is the NEA doing? I don't get it. Why don't they just crack down on the teachers who are abusing sick days, and leave everyone else alone?

I called over the summer to ask if they were paying subs more for Fridays, and HR said no, and that's part of the reason I changed my mind about subbing.

Not sure what NEA is doing about it, I'm not NEA. But they are the group that came up with last year's plan where we had to call in on Mondays and Fridays, so not sure anything they do is going to be helpful on this anyway.
