Reviewing the all natural way...

So I've been wanting to try making my own natural shampoo and conditioner for a while because I have heard that it's really good for you and, because there's always a deeper motive, a lot cheaper to use things I already have in my kitchen :) I also decided, since the recipe was there and it was easy to make, to try making my own face wash as well. So I am very curious about trying this. I had just read a few weeks ago about the whole no-shampoo thing. I wonder about the oil as face wash thing: I have mild rosacea, which means that most cleansers and acne stuff have these chemicals that actually make my acne worse and inflame my skin. That's why I switched to this soap-free face wash from Eucerin last year - it's more expensive but has kept my face from getting soooo red the way it used to. However, where the hell does one buy caster oil? That's not really the kind of thing one normally has lying around, lol.

I'm a little nervous to try the no-shampoo thing. I'd heard that for a few weeks your hair is going to be super-gross looking and smelly, but perhaps doing the baking soda thing negates that? Hm. Sometime when I'm a tad more comfortable w/ money I'll buy some caster oil and try the face wash.

So you can get castor oil at your local grocery store with a pharmacy. It is actually a laxative (yea, I got a funny look from the young pharmacist hehe) and you can buy it without a prescription but it was behind the counter. Because of the rosacea you may want to do one of the recipes with less olive oil...I just did the one with more because I have dry skin.
Also, there is a bit of a transition period for the shampoo but it doesn't get all smelly because the baking soda does clean out the oils, but your hair my produce more oil for a little while. So far, mine isn't freaking out.

Using lemon juice to the conditioner will lighten your hair. As far as where to get castor oil, you can get it at any drug store or in the pharmacy department of WalMart, Shopko, or Target. It really isn't very expensive.

The lemon juice lightens hair? In the winter my natural color tends to get really dingy, so maybe the lemon juice will help. Thanks :)
