Soup Kitchen!

Our kitchen has been a soup kitchen for the last week or so - we've tried 3 different soups, and they've all been great!  This has been a bit of a revelation for me, as I was of the opinion that I didn't really like soup.  I guess it's a bit like my belief that I didn't like sweet with my savoury - the Moroccan cooking has changed my mind on that ( Read more... )

Ooh, soups. I confess to rarely using recipes and mostly just tossing in whatever sounds good and that I happen to have. However, there was one a couple of months back that came out really well. It had okra, chopped and quick-fried with olive oil and various other things, I think it must have had fresh chopped tomato and parsley too - I remember lots of red and green. Unfortunately I just looked back through my food posts and the recipe doesn't seem to be there, so I suspect I never posted it (which is a shame, it was delicious). I did however find a post on a simple vegan vichyoisse which was nice. (Vichyoisse is fancy potato and leek soup but is usually made with cream or other dairy ( ... )

Still racking my brains over the okra soup - it had fresh lime juice, and garlic cloves. Did I use cherry tomatoes, halved? I know I threw most ingredients (definitely the okra) into the frying pan and lightly stir-fried them together before putting them into the saucepan, adding enough hot water to cover it and any remaining ingredients and letting it all cook together for twenty minutes or so.

Yes, Peter made a random veggie soup the other day too - he's much better at that kind of cooking than me. Your soups sound interesting, so I'll definitely add them to my list to try...
