You know, I totally feel the same way with you about Eleven. In series 5, I thought the Doctor was just a little too cheerful, he totally lacked depth. But I think, looking back, that had less to do with Matt Smith, and more to do with the writing and what Moffat was trying to do.
Now in Series 6, he's practically gone full circle. Eleven is dark, manipulative, cold and angry, even brooding. Sometimes he strikes me as the scariest Doctor I've ever seen. He might end up as the biggest magnificent bastard since Seven if he keeps this up. Love that they've added so much depth to the character this series, especially with everything going on with River Song.
