Blue and Red

Does anyone know why blue is democrat's color and red is republicans?
Is it true it was the other way around once?

Thanks, yes, that's what I read, it seems that there was no real reason, it was "just because"...

I heard somewhere that red was for democrats once because they were associated with communism, but then they wanted to brake this association thus changed the colors....
