I spent 6 weeks on the island. It doesn't seem to be like Japan. The Okinawan are a distinct culture unlike mainland Japan. I can't imagine anyone going there for fun. However, if you're into history and/or WWII, there is planty to see

For some reason, I read that as "six years" and I was like "Holy Crap! How is your Japanese?"

Well, there is a guy in my class right now from Okinawa and he said the beaches are really pretty and probably a lot warmer than it is here at the moment.

and I am totally not into history at all, haha, bummer
