Oh, and they played "Seven Studies on Themes of Paul Klee" by Gunther Schuller, which was contemporary and almost pos-tonal. Some was pretty cool, but most wasn't. And it was Mozart's piano concerto No. 24 in C minor.
Sir Colin: I am quoting you in my final writing seminar assignment (I'm pretending to be a critic reviewing "Howl" and its importance to Portland, and I'm talking about "a project students did at Wilson High School" as evidence. I'm using your Howl (I dug it out of your archives). People will probably think I made the quote and the name up, but I'd just as rather make it real. You'll be famous.) Let me know if this is a problem.
I am also a big fan of the $5 student symphony ticket. Also, I concur on the joy that comes from Mussorgsky. Also also I concur that piano concertos are fun, although I actually do much prefer the entire orchestra. The GU Symphony Orchestra did Beethoven's 6th right before I left. It was amazing beyond all reason.
Well, piano concertos are the piano, accompanied by the whole orchestra, so in my opinion, they are awesome. And yeah, Beethoven is pretty much amazing. The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (the symphony I went to) did a bunch of Beethoven the week before, which I missed, and I was rather disappointed.
