I've always wondered what the ratio is between time spent on political posturing and time spent on actually doing useful things. In various countries, with different forms of government.

I didn't think of that last utilitarian point; thanks for mentioning it.

As for the liberty argument--I included both that and the "fodder" point because both are valid arguments against such a ban, and it's just more reasons not to do it.
