I had a birthday last Thursday and told myself I would do something fun this weekend, since I was in the middle of doing a lot of crap on the actual day of. The fun stuff this weekend turned out mostly to be wandering around Philly during the day, but maybe by next weekend I'll have thought of something appropriately celebratory and can use my ( Read more... )

What, it was your birthday? Well... happy birthday then! :D

And I think that a lot of Japanese people think that petals falling is significant only because people say so (imitation) and because it is considered Japanese (nationalism). That silly "wabisabi" nonsense and all. (Note that they only plant cherry blossoms and look at cherry blossoms, except that they don't really look at them and instead use them as excuses to sit on bright, fluorescent blue, plastic sheets and drink beer and become noisy, ugly, smelly drunkards.)

Hey, that one Basho poem which everybody says formed the genre isn't that bad. As an aesthetic I guess I can take or leave it, though.

Does your company have enforced flower-viewing? I hear it's not as popular as it used to be.
