CHARACTER

NAME: Dante
SERIES: Devil May Cry
TIMELINE: mid Devil May Cry 4
BACKGROUND: this actually pretty much covers it.

ABILITIES: Name the weapon, and Dante can use it. His range includes uzis and nunchaku, but he's particularly fond of long swords and .45 caliber automatics. His girls, Ebony and Ivory, twin .45s, were made for him specifically by Neil Goldstein, an old woman who ran a gunshop that he was once acquainted with. He can pull the trigger of an automatic so fast, that the barrel jams. If it can be wielded, Dante will find out how to do it. He has a knack for acrobatics, scaling buildings and dodging blows-basically defying all laws of physics.

However, there are quite a few of his more dynamic abilities that would have to operate under the 30% rule:

Dante's physical strength is absurd, being able to swing a six-foot sword like it was a golf club. This, of course, will but cut down. His ability to heal himself will be drastically diminished. Some of his natural abilities which come with being half-demon is called Devil Trigger, the ability to turn into a demon for a short amount of time. His abilities become enhanced, before he is unable to hold his form anymore and his powers recede. However, he will only be able to hold his Devil Trigger for 30% of the time he had before.

PERSONALITY: Being the only living son of the great demon Sparda is serious business. Torn between his human logic and demonic instinct, Dante never feels as if he's truly one or the other, nor does he seem to care. In fact, he seems to take pride in being both a demon and a human purely through his actions and interesting morals. He's lived his entire life in the human world, abiding by human regulations and norms (I feel like I should add "for the most part" in here). His life as a half-breed never seems to bother him, and he never talks about it. Those who usually find out do so by witnesses his raw strength, or by prior knowledge of his family heritage.

Dante is a pretty laid back guy, there are a lot of things that he can usually take with a grain of salt, or hand wave completely. He has absolutely no attachment to personal possessions (and unfortunately it sort of rolls over when he's dealing with other people's property), and no mind for money. In fact, it's amazing when he has any, or how he even manages to pay his bills.

When his sore points are hit, he evades the question with a joke or manages to change the subject. Rarely does he get mad, but when he does, I would suggest running to the next continent. He runs into most situations head-first and without thinking. His philosophy on battle usually runs along the "shoot it until it dies" category. Unless he's tempered, he will run off a cliff or into traffic, getting carried away with whatever he's doing. He has a wonderful rebellious streak that keeps him from complying simply for the sake of not-complying, which is one of the traits that comes as both inspiring and downright annoying. If it's one thing he won't freely give without reason, it's information. That means the secret's safe with him, but it also means difficulty people to penetrate his witty, rough-guy exterior.

On the other hand, he's incredibly social, and loves to be the center of attention. He's selfish over trivial things, careless, and a downright prick at times. He acts with casual nonchalance when being addressed, and usually pretends not to pay attention just to piss someone off. He does as little work as possible if he's uninterested, and tends to laze off if he doesn't feel like participating. However, when he's presented with a mission, he's incredibly dedicated and impossible to deter. When it comes to the people he cares about, he's selfless, and will do anything to protect them if they're threatened. He's pure in emotion, as it's never laced with complications. When he gets pissed, he's purely pissed, when he's sad, he's sad, there's hardly ever mixed feelings. He likes simple things, and likes to make comments when they start to deter from that.

Of course, there's always the aspect of "family." That could possibly get more on the complicated side. He fought with his brother, who went crazy with the aspect of inheriting their father's power, like an animal, but he still loved him. One thing about Dante is that if you get in tight with him, you get in tight with him. Sometimes it can take a lot of wear and tear, or you can be one of those odd estranged family members (ranging from Nero to Trish-though in Trish's case, it's more like "estranged clone of his mother") that wiggle their way into his heart, even when they dislike him personally. In fact, he follows Trish to some island in the middle of the ocean just because she resembles his mother.

He puts a lot of faith in people, even though he won't admit it, and doesn't discriminate against "demons" or "humans," and bases his opinions on his own experiences and instincts. To him, there's not much placed on what others believe to be "good" or "evil." There is always that grey line he rides both as a person, and as a mercenary. Despite being "evil," there is quite the handful of demons that he found he both liked and respected, even though their intentions were what someone else would consider in the wrong place. He has been both adored and ridiculed, and he has no interest in being seen as either way. In fact, he would much rather see people walk on their own two feet. He respects people who can carry out their own resolve, whether they be powerless, or "evil," or don't quite live by the same mishmash of a code that Dante does.

There is a weakness he has. A weakness for both women and children. Not having much of a childhood himself, forced to take care of himself at a young age; coupled with the adoration he has for his human mother, he is easily topped by both women and children. He loves kids, and even though he might come off as harsh to them, he never dumbs things down to protect them from the ways of the world. Instead he makes sure that they're comfortable. Shit happens, and to him, people have to deal with it happening-kids have every right to know what's going on just as much as everyone else. He will, however, be sure to be there for them, even if he's not that close to them, especially if they don't have anyone else to care for them. Throughout the anime, he cares for a girl named Patty, protects her physically, and is frequently topped into buying her ice cream, but never sheltering her. Women have the ability to top him in the same way, perhaps not as efficiently as children, but he does his best to make them feel appreciated. He flirts shamelessly (sometimes just for the sake of flirting), sometimes with anyone that he meets depending on the situation, but with women especially. He also enjoys the attention that it brings to him.

Part of his image is keeping up his tough-guy exterior, his witty responses, and his stylish leather attire. When needed, he defaults to it, keeping it up when provoked. He has a great time mouthing off to demons that are ten, twenty, or thirty times his size, and possibly have a few thousand years on him. He can crack jokes at the worst times, but also inserts some humors in situations that might be considered overly serious. He could be considered flippant, or perhaps just good-natured, but he'll cut with the crap and talk serious if it's well needed.

He takes life by the balls, and his cocky attitude isn't feigned, it's real. Dante is certainly not one who's short on confidence. He likes his freedom and he's not about to give up for anyone, thanks. Those who come close to trying to bind him immediately get shot down (yes, even if they're women). His rebellious side only further fuels this ("YOU DON'T OWN ME"). He's not shy to let people know that he's not about to let them control him-and has a nasty bite on him if they try. For those who chase him, he always seems a step ahead, even though he never really has anything planned.

One of his favorite pastimes, aside from dozing, is plowing through the demonic forces that he comes to face to face with almost every day. Following the legacy of his father, he has absolutely no qualms against cutting lose. In fact, one of his favorite things is a good fight. So he can't say there isn't a part of him that doesn't love that kind of mindless violence. He could care less who's the strongest, or who's from where, if someone offers up a good fight, he'll take it whole-heartedly.

All and all, he has a good head on him. Despite his occasional childish streaks about the smaller things in life, Dante comes through for the people who need him. Following in the footsteps of his father without his family guiding him, he keeps walking on his own two feet.
