CHARACTER NAME: Tavros Nitram
FANDOM: Homestuck
CHRONOLOGY:
HereCLASS: Fail!hero
SUPERHERO NAME: Page of Breath
ALTER EGO: Tavros Nitram, adiosToreador… STUDENT?!
BACKGROUND:
Tavros is a type of alien called trolls from a planet called Alternia that exists in a universe parallel to ours (sort of. It's a little more complicated then that but we'll get there) This Alternian world fucntions almost entirely on hate and aggression. There is no defense lawyer in trials. Murder is not seen as a terribly offensive crime particularly if it's someone of a higher caste killing someone of a lower one. Their caste system functions based on the color of the trolls blood which ranges from the dark red (lowest) up through the rainbow to a light purple (highest). Tavros resides on one of the lowest rungs of this society as his blood is a dark orangy brown sort of color. The lower blooded trolls are often gifted with psychic powers of some kind and are easier to influence by other psychic powers, while the higher blooded trolls live longer lives and are more likely to lose their ever-loving minds at some point. The adults of the species spend all of their time in space, conquering other planets due to a bit of a mishap between the empress and a certain pesky rebellious leader.
The children left behind are raised by a lusus, a pure white creature that bonds with the child of their choice for life. The children appear to have little responsibility other then to build their own house, in this case called a hive, and to survive to adulthood. Given this long stretch of time with nothing to do, games are invented. Two are important to Tavros
The first is FLARP, a sort of Live Action Role Playing Game except with real life consequences. For presumably several sweeps (equivalent to 2 years and some change) Tavros played this game with Aradia. It wasn't until their team went up against Vriska and Terezi that the aforementioned real life consequences came into effect though. During one of these games, Vriska cornered Tavros and, using her own psychic powers, made him jump off a cliff. He escaped the encounter alive, but without the use of his legs, and eventually turned his roleplaying interests into cultivating monsters instead.
The second is SGRUB, created by Sollux Captor solely for him and eleven other troll kids. Yes, Tavros was one of them. The ultimate goal of SGRUB was to create another universe for the twelve players to rule over, but it wasn't until they were almost finished with the game that they realized this. It started out as a simple rivalry between two teams, red and blue, to see who could win the game first. The game functions with one person entering the game first with another serving as something of a watcher and teammate to guide them through the various trials. Then another person enters the second into the game and the chain continues until all players are inside.
Through a complicated series of invents, Tavros' server player ended up being Vriska. And she took quite a bit of delight in tormenting him as he worked through the game, but eventually they met up and after some decidedly awkward romantic propositioning on the part of Vriska, the two made up and continued through the game. They made a great team, working together almost seamlessly for quite some time. But just before long, Aradia found them and... basically almost killed Vriska for the previous wrong of killing her first. (...it's a little complicated and has nothing to do with Tavros so I'll just... skip the details) The point is Tavros brought Vriska to her Quest Bed where, if she died on it, she would ascend to God Tier. That is... gain quite a bit of extra power.
She broke into his mind again, using him to write out her plea for a painless death in her own blood. After this plea became more and more desperate, Tavros panicked and absconded, choosing to sleep through most of the rest of the adventure. See, within this game, the players each have a separate dream self who can serve as an extra life in the game. However, while the player is dreaming, their dream self obeys a different sort of physics and is capable of flying. And being able to fly is Tavros' main wish. The dream world served as a perfect escape.
Eventually, the final boss fight happened and the trolls went to claim their prize and enter the universe they had created. However, at the last moment, the fully realized Bec Noir entered their universe through some thus far unexplained Weird Plot Shit and they were forced to flee. Bec Noir, for the record, is a god-like being with every intention of destroying everything.
Shortly after the trolls found a convenient asteroid to hide in, a couple of the other trolls, Kanaya and Equius, replaced Tavros' legs with robot legs that actually worked. This inspired a bit of mostly fake confidence in him and for a while he spent most of his time trying to get used to them. And being fake confident.
However, it turned out that Bec Noir came from an alternate session of SGRUB run on the universe the trolls' session had created. This would be our world. As the other trolls figured out what to do about Bec Noir and helped/trolled the kids in the alternate session, Tavros developed feelings for one of the human girls, Jade. In an act of heroism and extreme cultural misunderstanding, Tavros used his ability to commune with animals to accidentally murder her grandfather thinking he was an intruder meaning her harm. And then used this as an excuse to reveal his romantic intentions for her.
Needless to say he was rejected, and immediately after, Vriska began taunting him, and revealed that it was she who basically created Bec Noir. For the first time Tavros found the real confidence to confront her about it, despite knowing that he could not defeat her. He gathered his lance and headed towards her, only to trip down a flight of stairs because he still hadn't figured out how to make his new legs work on them.
He is pulled mid trip.
PERSONALITY:
To put it simply, Tavros is the worst troll ever. Take everything trolls are supposed to value - violence and hate and selfishness - and turn them around. Tavros is too kind, and cares too much about other people to ever be a good troll by Alternian standards.
To put it less simply, Tavros really is a good person by human standards, but he lacks the confidence and will-power to prove it 99% of the time. He is terribly terribly sweet, and loyal to every friend he's ever had. He'll give the benefit of the doubt to just about everyone he's ever met. There is no limit to the number of chances Tavros will give you. Of course, this means he's easy to take advantage of. Even Vriska, who is responsible for his disability and who he avoids talking to like the plague, manages to get more or less on his good side once they're forced to work together in the game. He trusts without reason to, and appreciates every kind word ever spoken to him even if they are few and far between.
His kindness extends to everything around him too. It's not just trolls who've been kind back. It's every troll and human and animal and monster. He is a true pacifist, so much so that he didn't kill a single enemy in the game, didn't kill Vriska even when she asked him to and absolutely refused to take control of his enemy beasts' minds until he absolutely had to in order to proceed. This also creates a kind of inability to lie as well. Even when he is faking confidence, he readily admits that his confidence is mostly a charade as soon as he's called on it. He might go about admitting it in a roundabout way, but eventually he ends up telling the truth. Of course, his truth his contextualized around how hard he believes something. Tavros is not delusional, so much as innocent in that he believes that the stronger he believes in something, the more real it is. Yes, that includes fairies no matter how many times Vriska tells him they’re fake. And yes, that includes Rufio, the personification of his confidence, who he himself readily admits is imaginary and fake.
And speaking of fake confidence, Tavros has that in spades. By which I mean, he is chronically unsure about everything. He has very little sense of self-worth, and approaches everything with the assumption that he will probably fail at it before too long. Granted he also seems to be chronically unlucky because he very often does fail, even when he's trying his damnedest not to. He is nigh incapable of asserting himself, preferring again the roundabout method of trying to appease whoever he's talking to before he tells them what he wants.
The only time he truly seems sure of himself is very near where he's being pulled from. Confronted with the idea that Vriska is responsible for Bec Noir's creation, he finally seems to snap. His pacifism falls to the wayside and he finds his lance and plans to go and kill her. He knows he has no chance of succeeding, but for once he is very very sure of what he wants to do. And this is perhaps his biggest flaw. For all his self-esteem issues and inability to confront anyone, Tavros wants to be a hero. He wants to be able to help his friends and save the day sometime. It is maybe an even bigger dream of his then the one where he wants to fly. When it comes down to it, Tavros will do The Right Thing. The Heroic Thing. Or at the very least, he'll give it the best shot he can before he almost inevitably messes it all up.
He'll never give up though. Death doesn't scare him. Not much does even it comes across like maybe everything scares him. He's a boy who's grown up on fairy tales and the best kinds of adventures. It's a pipe dream. He knows it. He knows he'll never fly like Pupa, not rescue much of anyone from anything. But he'll never give it up. He is the eternal optimist. Nothing can bring him down and he will always look on the bright side. The bright side of a bad accident, or a bad person, or even, very occasionally, his own quite terrible self-esteem. As long as he keeps dreaming of something better, as long as he works towards it, he can't be without hope. There's always another chance to be a hero tomorrow.
POWER:
Bull horns canon Uhh… nothing special here, I was just hoping he could keep his ridiculous horns after he became human. IF NOT I CAN GET RID OF THIS NO PROBLEM
Windy thing lite canon Which is to say Tavros is a [hero] of Breath like John is, but since he never reached his god tier he is nowhere near as powerful. This power isn’t detailed in the comic, but I assume it’d just be basic wind manipulation. At its most powerful, I’d say he could maybe fly around with it for a few minutes, max?
Communing with animals canon Lowblooded trolls usually have some kind of psychic ability and Tavros’ is being able to command animals. Or… actually beasts, because this power extends to the ogres and imps and other monsters in SGRUB as well. It also doesn’t seem to have a limit on distance either, as he was able to command Becquerel in the kids’ dimension.

LOGS POST (THIRD PERSON) SAMPLE:
When he first hits the open air, there is a moment when he imagines maybe he will fly. He thinks that maybe he was just being silly and not-as-confident-as-he-should-be and that's why he never tried this all on his own. His low ugly blood sings under his skin and this must be what it's like to be Pupa. This must be like what he feels every day. For a moment he is a hero in his own mind.
And then Vriska's influence evaporates out of his thinkpan as suddenly as it entered, and there is a sharp sting of fear in the sudden clarity she leaves behind. He doesn't look down doesn't look down doesn't look down and feels his hero pride, his maybe-confidence, his Pupa... ness (because it is never more then a -ness, he is not a wiggler anymore, he knows he can't actually be his favorite story) shrivel and shudder and fall to pieces. He feels every little shard and paper shred of it get left behind in the air as he starts to fall. They'll float down gentle on the breeze and come back to him on the ground.
Maybe.
But maybe all of that's just fake like fairies are, and really the only thing that's real right now is Vriska's terrible laughter and the nighttime wind in his face. And the ground rushing up to meet him. Oh... but maybe it's the other way around, he thinks, because he knows that nothing falls up, especially the ground.
He forgot about not looking down. He regrets it now that he can see how quickly he's getting to the end. Assuming it is the end at all. He's never heard a story about a troll surviving a long fall like this, but then again, he's never heard a story about a troll falling at all. It doesn't seem like it'd make a very good one, if anyone ever did try to write one down.
He doesn't make a sound the whole time he falls. It's the one thing that still surprises him later, when he gets a chance to think about it, though he likes to avoid those chances as much as he can. But he doesn't scream. Doesn't yell for help, or even just at Vriska because maybe she might be able to make it all not happen the same way she made him jump off the cliff in the first place. There's just the high sound of the wind through his clothes and over his horns, and he doesn't close his eyes finally until a moment before--
There's a hard sound. He doesn't ever figure out a way to describe it later on when anyone (everyone) asks. It's just... hard. Kind of a crunch. Mostly he remembers how he knew exactly where his legs were before, but after the sound, he just forgets because he guesses maybe they're suddenly less important. He still hasn't heard from Aradia or Terezi after all. He's a little worried about them.
Thing is, even after he does hear back from them and listens to them apologize over and over like it's their fault and not his for not being a good enough sky-lark to handle Vriska's clouding, he still can't make his head remember where they are so they get kind of useless after that.
But it's okay. Sort of. He knows he'll get used to it, just like he knows he should probably find someone who will respond now that he's finally stopped falling. Maybe Karkat... He just has to find his computer first.
It will be a long few moments before the pain finally hits him.
FINAL NOTES ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER:
I’m not sure… what’ll happen to his robot legs once he enters the city? I assume if the Portal just turns all the metal back into normal flesh, he’ll be crippled again, unless… it’ll fix his spine too?!?! I have no idea… D8
