Coincidentally, this was in the daily news/info section of my company's intranet site today:
People have been making cider for as long as there has been apples. The English really began to make it popular in the 1600s. It was important during the settlement of this country because it was a nutritious drink and because a lot of the settlers allowed the drink to become hard (alcoholic). Any apple can make a good cider.
When I read this, I thought of your post--so I had to come over and paste it here!
