The Curse of The Babe is hereby, forever, irrevocably and absolutely crushed into dust and strewn across the ash heap of history, where it belongs..........
Actually... I feel like they took three years to go from being the heroic underdogs to being the new Yankees- one more overfunded brand name overkill machine.
When referring to the American League team from New York, this LJ recognizes the name "Evil Empire" or "Evil Emphiah". The "Y" word is not generally advised for use or generally recognized.
The Boston Red Sox are referred to as "Boston" "Red Sox" "Sox" "Sawx" or possibly "BoSox".
ANY comparisons between the Sox and the Evil Empire are sternly frowned upon, as they are invariably utterly groundless, indefensible, morally bankrupt, ethically vacuous, untrue, wrong, and horrible, UNLESS of the "the Sox' diarrhea is about as good as the Evil Empiah on a good night" variety.
Hey I just read your post on Anarchists, and I would be really interested in getting a copy of your zine Rad Dad. I'm about to embark on a similar experience, and I found the essay you posted enlightening. I'd love to read the rest of the zine if you have any copies around.
who am I? just some crotchety, aging anarcho type, using LJ as a procrastination tool in avoiding my mountains of grad. school work.
years ago I was much more involved and towed the party line (anarcho-syndicalist, with a touch of green, balanced by a double-dash of humanism) much more emphatically, not unlike many on the anarchists forum today. which I guess explains a lot of my bile on that forum.
and you?
oh, and if you are coming through St. lou, lemme know, I can direct you to the anarcho spots of choice. same with Austin, though its been awhile since I lived there.
hmmm... i was writing tons and just went back to basics. i just graduated from university and drifted to anarchism through a pretty general outlook on life. i don't really care for labels and the parsings between different sects which amounts to very little sometimes. i just want to actually create an alternative market and system of distribution that really helps people without concern for profit or a top-down structure. i think that if anything, getting into the working world has really reshaped but also reinforced these ideas. its all really interesting and i guess thats why i'm in the community, to maybe learn about real activities in real life that i can do to help myself out. and others, of course. :)
Ayee, I think I had "great lakes" mixed up with "great plains" in my head. Toledo is just a bit too far to be realistic for me right now (which is a sad statement in itself).
I would strongly recommend Scott Kellogg of the Rhizome collective for a sustainability/ permaculture presentation. He does a workshop called "Radical Sustainability for Autonomous Communities". You can read more about it at http://www.rhizomecollective.org/node/31
you can say that Adam S. in st. louis, aka "copwatch adam" referred you, if you want.
