Before last night, I'd only really heard the Beatles's singles.
Over the phone Chris named off songs from Abbey Road and Revolver that I should download: Taxman; Mean Mr. Mustard; Polythene Pan; She Came in Through the Bathroom Window; Tomorrow Never Knows; and She Said, She Said.
My God. I know we have Abbey Road on vinyl in the garage somewhere... I should go through those boxes and pick out the albums I want to take with me. I think I'll do that this afternoon/evening. Hopefully my dad won't flip out. He shouldn't. He never listens to his old records anyway: we don't have a needle for the phonograph.
And these songs are amazing. Completely ahead of its time. Chris was describing them and said, "they won't give Jamie Stewart a run for his money or anything, but still. These were written in the 1960s."
LSD and Andy Warhol, thank you for being such friends with the Beatles.
And the new White Stripes album, Get Behind Me Satan, is sooo good. Not their best (De Stijl or Elephant are the best) but still really good.
