That was one seriously expensive burger.

So, it's been one big joy ride this past week or so.

Burgers are expensive... )

this is my life, work, car frustration

Carburetor or fuel injector?

Carbie.

This car is literally old enough to drink. In the US.

Hell, it's almost as old as my watch. =)

So, two things that come to mind that are both pretty simple to deal with at home.

Water in the gas tank - less likely, but one to consider. Messes up your fuel feed, and there are additives you can put in your tank (alcohol, mostly, IIRC) that will get rid of it. I had issues with this living in Seattle after losing a gas cap...

Two, more likely - dirty clogged up carburetor - messes up your fuel feed, and kills your ability to idle. There are carb cleaner products that are sold at auto stores for home use. Might be worth trying before you take it in.

I'd halfway expect the clogged carbie, but it's only been a year or two since the damn thing got completely disassembled and reassembled in front of me repeatedly. (Turns out the needle-and-seat needed to be replaced.) And I had the fuel tank taken off de-redback-spidered* and the entire fuel system flushed out at the same time.

(*) I hate these things. They are one of only two creatures I will go out of my way to kill, and I feel bad about killing mosquitoes. But better regretful than infected with Ross River virus.

As for the take it in? I have a mobile mechanic I get out. So much easier. Plus we can shake our heads at whatever damn fool thing his son has gotten up to lately.

Dude, just to state the blatantly frakking obvious but that, that right there, sucks rather a lot.

Ayup.

Still pondering what the hell I'm gonna do for a costume for All Hallows, BTW.

'Tis a noble steed, but getting long in the tooth.

That was indeed one hell of an expensive burger. Maybe try the shrine of the clown next time?

So nice of the car to choose Idiot Central for a breakdown. Then again, the list of convenient places for this to happen is vanishingly short. Bon chance.
