An uncomfortable epiphany

So, a friend of mine linked to this story tonight, and it's led me to an unpleasantly closer understanding of how some people can be so hateful and violent.

*spits* I am so not an american, more and more every day, despite the things that Obama's done.

Let the gods and karma sort this one out, friend. Better that we focus our energy into living and being the better people (ie not being that BLINDINGLY stupid).

Mm. Not the approach I take, because humans have demonstrably done this sort of thing, over and over. To me, that kind of rejection is a pretense, and too much akin to the pretense that one can reject one's own shadow nature. It's still there. It's still part of us. In fact, at the root of this story is someone deciding that someone else isn't really human, in a matter of speaking. And I really don't want to emulate them.

I feel that until a being is able to show compassion to fellow beings, they do not deserve to be considered Human.

These people certainly failed at that point.

I treat them as strangers, not friends-to-be.
