I certainly would have to guess Marion Zimmer Bradley for the Mercedes Lackey question - I have a bunch of those Sword and Sorceress anthology books.

The James Tiptree Jr one is a little harder, I think, as Alice Bradley Sheldon sadly died in 87.

Despite having been dubbed "The Destroyer of Fiction Trivia" by Scott, my first two guesses as to what is mined at Bespin were wrong: I don't remember tibana gas being mentioned in the film at all, and haven't read the novels.
