Sorry to hear the chronic pain has started returning, even if it is at a shadow of its former self. Is there anything that can be done down the physio route? Or is it all just medications and such now?
Unfortunately, there's no reliable cause for my pain, and all sorts of test have failed to find anything. The only alternative to medication I have come across so far is surgery to remove the offendingaffected parts, which I am loathe to do, because a) kinda against removing parts of my body even if they do sometimes hurt for no clear reason, and b) if it happens to be referred pain*, then that would be even worse.
(*) Referred from where, and why? No idea, and no evidence to suggest it is, but not something I'm sanguine about risking, y'know?
Why's it so bloody difficult to get Neurontin/Gabapentin out there? They dispense it like it's going out of style around here, right before they start with Elavil/Amitriptyline. I'd almost say ask about Lyrica, but I don't know if it's an applicable medication for this situation. Worth a shot though. Things you hear from Pharmacists... (or that I hear from pharmacists, which in either case makes for interesting information)
Yay for less ick and here's hoping it goes away quickly. Mine's all but gone--whee, modern chemistry--but I am wanting to know who it was at work that I caught it from, because that's the only place I would have had exposure to it.
Actually, I feel much better already, with only an occasional slight cough. Really, the only remaining symptom of note is my half-present and variable voice, which is mildly annoying at most. (Although slightly alarming to folks who know what my normal voice sounds like, it seems.)
gabapentin is the generic name for Neurontin. I find it strange that you could only get this at the hospitals there, as here it is a very common prescription.
they tried me on it, for the fibro. It gave *me* seizures. Ick.
Perhaps I have been misinformed about gabapentin. I can't recall anyone other than my GP stating is is hospital only, and my GP is clearly not the most definitive/informed person on the matter.
*shrug*
Part of the issue, ease of access aside, of changing to another medication is the effect it will have on my depression, as currently the duloxetine covers both issues quite handily. I'd happily continue to take it, if not for this apparently growing tolerance. Pity it has such a narrow (official) therapeutic range.
beware of the Gabapentin - on the known side effects list are both mood swings and deep dark depression. Be sure to talk to your doctor about this more. It is *possible* that it may affect your brain chemistry in beneficial ways, but it is also possible that it may go the other way in big ways.
If you start on it, be sure to post a LOT so people outside your brain can help keep an eye on you.
