In an IM chat this morning a friend mentioned that they can smell the deceased. I'd like to believe this is true.

My step father was an old hand at raising and caring for dogs. He said he always allowed his living dogs to sniff the body of the deceased--he said it helped them.

I think I'm going to cry now.

In that same IM chat, this friend said he's heard this was a good thing to do. Unfortunately, we didn't think about this, nor would the wife have been able to handle taking both dogs to the vet. I think it would have just pushed her over the top.

She has LOTS of experience with this, however. Her father is a prominent veterinarian in the US. He's retired now, but still does a lot of research work for big dairies. He and our vet have guided us through this ordeal ( ... )

Just so sad and I am shedding lots of tears here.. What a loving face........those loyal eyes. But you know that kind of love lasts forever. Love is eternal. She is always yours and you are always her's.

When I got home from the vets the other night, Ainsley sniffed me for a solid 20 minutes. The she put her tail between her legs and went and slept in Nulty's crate, despite the fact that only her head fits in there. She could smell it, I know.
