Second, while I think a ninja EX250 is a GREAT beginner bike, and is a decent enough bike for even someone as big as I am (was) to have fun roadracing ( see http://www.garyratherphoto.com/AFM/2003/SP_Mar03/race_07/0303_2100.JPG ), buying one new is silly. That model hasn't changed since 1988.
Good ninja 250's can be had for 1500-2000 and will be worth that (providing you don't total it) when you're ready to sell it as well.
lemme know if you do go the used route, as I'd be happy to inspect the bike before you buy. I know that bike REALLY well and can verify all the normal problems those bikes can have aren't issues.
