A/N: ...IDK anymore
The first time Kyuhyun walks past that road was when he just had the most unlucky day of his life. He was caught in the rain on his way to school. He reached school late and got an earful from his teacher. Not to mention he forgot his homework in his rush and got sent to detention after school. Plus all the big bullies of the school happened to be in detention that day too, you can imagine what that meant for a nerd like him.
But as he was wallowing in self-pity something small and fluffy caught his eye. It was a rabbit. A small white one with brown spots and shiny black eyes. It was using a small piece of cardboard to shelter itself from the pouring rain.
“Hey little guy.” The rabbit looked up and blinked at Kyuhyun. Kyuhyun took pity on the rabbit and decided to bring it home with him. “What’s your name?” Kyuhyun asked and immediately face palmed himself when he realised he just tried to ask a rabbit for its name.
“Ok then, I shall call you Sungmin.”
For the first few years or so Kyuhyun took extremely good care of Sungmin. He cleaned her cage every day, made sure she had enough to eat and drink and he even talked to her. Sungmin wasn’t a dog which would wag its tail everything its master returns but every time Kyuhyun came home she would come closer to the cage door and flap its ears, like a greeting.
But as the years past and Kyuhyun became more socially active Sungmin was pushed further and further down his priority list. He would come home late, spend hours on the phone, hours more on the computer and proceed to sleep. Sometimes when Sungmin was lucky, he would remember to feed her or else she would starve for days.
She also hates it that the only time Kyuhyun cleans her cage is when his friends are coming over, especially girlfriends. They would always point to her and say things like ‘OMG your rabbit is so cute!” and later she can hear them scream her master’s name in his room with the door locked and even rabbits know it ain’t a good thing.
One day Kyuhyun moves to a new home, new school, new environment and Sungmin is lucky he remembered to bring her.
For some reason Kyuhyun made less friends at his new school and spent more time at home talking to Sungmin but the little rabbit would just chew away at its food and ignore him.
Years later Kyuhyun finds that Sungmin has been sleeping a little more than usual and that she eats less. Worried he sent her to the vet. “So how’s she?”
“Serious liver malfunction. I’m afraid she won’t last.” The doctor told him. “The only option is to put her to sleep.” Kyuhyun thought about it for nights until he finally signed the papers to allow them to kill Sungmin.
“You should um… spend the last few minutes talking to her.” The doctor suggested.
“Hey,” Kyuhyun started, “I know I haven’t really been a good master to you in the last couple of years and I’m sorry.” Kyuhyun stopped suddenly when he saw tears flowing down the rabbit’s face. He never knew rabbits could cry, until that day that is.
He wanted to say more but the vet brought the little creature away and in a matter of minutes, Sungmin was no longer of this world.
That night as he was walking, his feet subconsciously brought him to the road where he found his furry friend. But this time, there was a girl sitting in the rain with only a jacket to shield her.
“Hey.” The girl looked up and blinked at Kyuhyun. Kyuhyun took pity on the girl and offered to bring her home with him. “Really?” The girl squeaked. Kyuhyun nodded. “By the way, my name’s Kyuhyun. Yours?”
“Sungmin.”
