Title: Cantarella

Pairing; KyuMin
Genre: Romance(?)
Summary: To escape fate, the only option one has, is to die.
Notes1: I was very tired but couldn’t fall asleep so I wrote this. Some parts just don’t make any sense.
Notes2: Cantarella is a poison that makes a person appear dead for 4 hours or so. That’s what I heard anyways.
It was midnight. The mansion’s lights were off and the people had long since gone to bed. With the exception of Cho Kyuhyun who was frantically scribbling his quantum physics paper to be handed in the next day, or rather, in a few hours.
“You’re still up?” someone asked him while said someone leaned over to see his paper completely covered in correction tape and eraser marks.
“You should get some sleep Min.”
“Right back at cha. Why’d you even decide to take physics anyway? You know that bunch of crap is way too much for you to handle.”
“Because apparently the heir to a multibillion dollar company has to have As in every damn subject in the freaking world! Even dumb useless stuff like this!” he gestured to the paper before throwing his hands in the air in defeat.
In reality, Kyuhyun isn’t all that smart; the world seems to think he is though. He gets As for every subject but truthfully its all the tuition and late nighters (and some cold hard cash) that does it. His IQ is only slightly above that of an average person, nothing too spectacular.
As opposed to Kyuhyun, Sungmin was born with the gift of having a photographic memory. She easily aced her tests without studying but of course, the heir’s cousin can’t be smarter than the heir himself. It would be a huge embarrassment.
While Kyuhyun was still grumbling away, Sungmin was quickly finishing the paper for him. “Now let’s get some sleep.” Sungmin pulled him to the bed, pushed him onto it, turned off the lights and crawled in next to him.
See, Sungmin and Kyuhyun were cousins. Sungmin’s mother was the sister of Kyuhyun’s father. And Sungmin and Kyuhyun have slept in the same bed since the day Sungmin lost her parents.
That day, it was pouring, Sungmin and her parents were in the car when the brakes stopped working. In a desperate attempt to avoid hitting other vehicles, the driver took a sharp turn and sent the car spinning. In the end nothing was left but scraps of metal, broken pieces of glass and one little crying girl.
That day, Sungmin was adopted into the Cho family.
~
“Kyuhyun there’s someone very important we’d like you to meet.” the old lady smiled sweetly, something that rarely ever happens. In fact it was so rare; it sent shivers down Kyuhyun’s spine. Kyuhyun raised an eyebrow. Someone important enough to make his mother smile like that should be interesting.
“Come in.” his mother called and a young lady walked in. She had long, black hair that fell to her waist. She wore a purple silk dress and 5 inch heels. Kyuhyun couldn’t guess why she was so important.
His mother proudly placed an arm on the girls shoulder, “She is your fiancée, Seohyun! You two will be getting married in three months.” Kyuhyun’s jaw dropped.
“Nice to meet you I’m Seohyun.” The girl extended her hand.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?!” Kyuhyun exclaimed, completely ignoring Seohyun’s hand.
“We meant to, but Seohyun’s family had to fly to another country at that time.”
“But I don’t want to get married yet!” he protested. His mother’s expression immediately darkened but she still managed to persuade Seohyun out of the room with all the self-control she could muster.
“Well, it doesn’t really matter does it? Its gossip material and the media digs gossip material.”
“But-“
“Damn that devil’s child. She’s corrupting your mind. We never should have adopted her.”
“Sungmin is not the devil’s child and I’m not getting married.”
“Well you’d better get used to her being around since she’s going to stay here from now on.” she stomped off quickly.
~
“So is she pretty.” Sungmin asked the moment Kyuhyun finished telling her about the meeting a few minutes ago.
“She’s ok I guess.”
“You don’t really like her do you?” Kyuhyun nodded. Sungmin didn’t know what to say after that so she just kept quiet and pretty soon there was an awkward silence enveloped the room.
Two months to go:
“Hey Kyu how about we go on a date today? Just you and me?”
“Sorry can’t I’m doing my project with Sungmin today.”
“How about tomorrow?”
“Nope. Movie night with Sungmin.”
“The day after that?”
“I’ve got Chemistry class.”
“Can’t you skip? You’re a genius anyway.”
“No can do. That’s the lesson Sungmin and I have our ‘paper ball fight when the teacher isn’t looking’ contest.”
Seohyun walked away. “I’m supposed to be his fiancée but all he thinks about is Sungmin Sungmin Sungmin. Arghhh! This can’t be happening! I’m going to kill that pathetic excuse of a girl!”
~
Sungmin was walking to the shower when Seohyun called her. Seohyun never called Sungmin, ever. In fact Sungmin swore Seohyun tried to kill her with a flowerpot once.
“I need to talk to you. Stay away from MY Kyuhyun, got it.”
“Since when have I butted into your relationship?”
Seohyun didn’t care anymore. She reached for Sungmin’s neck with both hands and squeezed. Luckily Kyuhyun happened to be walking by and pushed Seohyun away with one hard push. Seohyun landed butt first on the floor and started whining but Sungmin was too busy coughing and Kyuhyun was too busy trying to stop Sungmin from coughing to notice.
~
“You’ve got one hell of a fiancée huh?” Sungmin commented while lying on the bed, Bunny (the plush rabbit) in her arms.
“Now I’m pretty darn sure I don’t want to marry her.”
Sungmin sighed, “Two more months.”
~
One month to go:
“Doesn’t this dress look good on me?” Seohyun stated as she looked at herself in the mirror. “Perfect from this angle. And this one too. Don’t you agree that I’d made a gorgeous bride? ”
“That dress makes you look fat.”
“CHO KYUHYUN!”
This is part of Kyuhyun’s not-marry-Seohyun plan. So far he has tried insults, pranks, ignoring her completely and changing his attitude but none seemed to be working.
“I bet you’re thinking of that stupid Lee Sungmin again. You love her more than you love me. And I’m supposed to be your fiancée!”
“And so what if that’s true?” Kyuhyun replied while Seohyun gasped.
Recently everyone’s been telling Kyuhyun that. Well, the part about him loving Sungmin that is. Typical high school rumors and drama but sometimes rumors aren’t baseless.
~
“The marriage is in three weeks son. So have you adjusted to Seohyun’s presence?” his mother asked in a tone obviously teasing him.
He only smiled back and continued walking towards his room but to his surprise, Sungmin wasn’t there. He asked the maid. She said Sungmin was not in the mansion. Kyuhyun was about to run out of the house when his mother stopped him, “I forbid you to look for that creature! If I were her I’d rather not be in this house either.”
“But you’re not her.” Kyuhyun said and dashed out of the house anyway.
Kyuhyun ran to all the places that Sungmin might have gone to; the park, the candy shop, the beach and even the small café at the end of the street but there was no sign of Sungmin anywhere.
“Min!” he called over and over but still he couldn’t find her. Was Seoul this big? Where else would she go? Then he remembered, the only other possible place he hasn’t looked yet: the abandoned train station.
Sure enough she was there. “Min!” he called her and gave her a bone crushing hug. “Why’d you leave? I was so worried.”
“Nothing much really.” Sungmin smiled. “Have you thought of a way to not marry Seohyun?”
“No. The only way I can do that is to die.”
“Then you will die.” Sungmin replied, holding up a vial of red liquid.
~
“YOUNG MASTER KYU IS DEAD!!!!” the maid’s shriek could be heard from miles away. Everyone in the mansion rushed to his room to see for themselves if it was true.
His mother checked for a pulse. Nothing. He wasn’t breathing either. He was dead. “Th-This is all your fault. I knew you were hell sent! Get out! OUT!”
Sungmin picked up the bags she already packed and left the mansion with a smirk on her face. She went to the abandoned train station and put all her stuff down.
Within an hour someone else came into the station. “Hey Min ready to get going?”
“Of course, Kyu.”
A/N: It’s been so long since I wrote something. I wonder if anybody remembers me. Mistakes and stuff still apply. And comments are appreciated.
