Kyuhyun walked in his house and was greeted by a weirdly shaped… thing standing in the middle of the hall. “Sungmin, what is that?”
Sungmin looked at the object in question. “A Christmas tree.” She answered briefly before returning to her book.
“In what way does that look like a Christmas tree?” He questioned scanning the ‘tree’ up and down.
“It has a star on the top.” She pointed to the shiny star placed on the top of the tree whilst still focusing on her book.
“And why is it here?”
“It’s Christmas in a week.”
“Rephrase, where did you buy this pile of garbage from?”
“I couldn’t go out to buy one since I wasn’t allowed to leave so I asked Kibum about it and she said your family still kept the Christmas tree from years ago so, voila!”
As if on cue Kibum walked in carrying a pail of laundry. Kyuhyun shot her a look and she just shrugged. Kyuhyun sighed. “Sungmin, do we really have to put up a Christmas tree this year?”
Sungmin looked up immediately. “Of course! You can’t have Christmas without a tree, that’s like having bunnies without the pink.”
“But normal bunnies don’t come in pink.”
Sungmin glared. Kyuhyun gulped. “Ok we’ll put out a tree but let’s go buy a proper one tomorrow ok?”
~
“We are not wearing that.” Sungmin said throwing the impossibly long scarf away.
“But we can’t risk being seen in public.” Kyuhyun shoved the scarf back into her arms.
“This is not going to make a difference. Now we look like ninjas with shuriken stars going about killing people.”
“You’re funny. Now hurry up.”
The moment they stepped into the mall, everyone stared at them. “I told you we look like a bunch of weirdos.” Sungmin hissed.
“Oh forget it already let’s go get that damn tree.”
After a good three hours in the shop (mainly because they were debating which colour they should choose, which type of ornaments they should get and what size it should be) they finally left the shop satisfied. Now all’s that’s left is setting up the tree.

“No the blue ball should go here!” Kyuhyun held the ball up to prove his point.
“No it looks much better placed here!” Sungmin snatched the ball from him and held it at the spot she felt would be more suitable.
Here. Here. Here. Was all Kibum could hear as she watched the ball go from Kyuhyun’s possession to Sungmin’s and back to Kyuhyun’s again. “How long?” The head chef asked poking his head out of the kitchen.
“So far it’s been four hours and they’ve just got the third ornament up.” Kibum replied. “How’s the food?”
“Well young master Kyuhyun wanted beef but young mistress wanted chicken; we still have no idea what we should prepare.” Shindong shrugged. “Those two have been arguing non-stop for the past few weeks, post marital issues perhaps.”
“Wait til she finds out Kyuhyun’s going to be in Japan for the whole twelve days of Christmas. She’s going to blow.” Kibum sighed.
The two went back to work while the couple continued to argue over the positions of the balls in the living room.

Sungmin was in her room listening to music while doodling on her notepad when someone knocked on the door and let themselves in without waiting for an answer.
“There really is no point in knocking if you’re not going to wait for an answer.” Sungmin said as Kyuhyun he lowered himself onto her bed.
“Whatever. Hey Min remember when we said we’d have a Christmas party? You know us and the rest of the people in this house.” Kyuhyun started slowly.
“What about it?” Sungmin asked suspicious.
“Well we can’t have it.”
“Why?”
“Well, er… you see I’ll be in Japan for twelve days starting in three days.” Kyuhyun explained.
“WHAAAAAATTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“Told you she’d blow.” Kibum whispered to Shindong downstairs.
Kyuhyun dodged the massive amounts of flying objects being sent to his direction. Finally Sungmin ran out of things she could fling so she settled for slamming the door in his face before stomping back to her bed.
Being friends since they were born (literally), they’ve always spent Christmas together, until Sungmin had left for Japan that is. Naturally Sungmin would be upset since she was looking forward to spending Christmas with her best friend again.
For the next three days Sungmin avoided Kyuhyun like he was plague. At the breakfast table, Sungmin would finish her breakfast in one mouthful and leave. When they met each other in the hallways, Kyuhyun would raise a hand to say hello but she would just walk past him as if she couldn’t see.
“Lady Sungmin, your friend is here to see you.” Sungmin looked up, who could it possibly be so early on Christmas morning.
“SUNGMIN!!!” she was caught in a bone crushing hug the moment she entered the hall.
“Ryeowook… can’t… breathe.” She squeaked. The girl by the name of Ryeowook let go of her whilst muttering a thousand apologies.
“What brings you here?” Sungmin asked when she regained her breathe.
“Pabo. It’s Christmas day, why do you think I came here?” Ryeowook replied holding out a big pink box. Sungmin took the box and was about to open it when Ryeowook slapped her hands away. “Don’t open it yet.”
Sungmin pouted then tried to shake the box in a futile attempt to guess its contents. “It’s a good thing I didn’t get you anything fragile. So what did your husband get you?”
Sungmin looked down at the floor. “He umm, he’s flying away today.”
Ryeowook’s eyes widened. “But today is Christmas! How can he fly away at a time like this!” she complained, an endless list of babblings escaping her mouth.
Just then the door opened and a small man came in screaming Kyuhyun’s name. “You’re going to be late for your flight if you don’t wake up now!” He screamed. Sungmin excused herself and went into her room.
“Hey who do you think you are screaming the minute you enter someone’s house!?” Ryeowook shouted at the intruder who just interrupted her conversation with Sungmin.
“I’m Kyuhyun’s manager I have every right to be here. And what about you? What are you doing here?” Yesung retorted.
“If it wasn’t obvious I was talking to Sungmin. And I don’t want to hear that tone from a jerk like you!”
“What do you mean jerk? I don’t even know who you are. And you don’t know me either!”
“I know that you are the idiot who arranged for Kyuhyun to go to Japan for Christmas!”
Yesung looked away. “I didn’t want to either but you know, the company that’s hosting the concert is really big and we just can’t miss this opportunity. Besides the tickets have all sold out and we’ve already spent the profits so…”
Ryeowook shook her head and stormed off but not before Yesung heard her whisper a “Not if I can help it.”
~
“Sungmin hurry up or you’re going to be late!”
“Late for what?” Sungmin asked, unsure of why Ryeowook was busy running around her room shoving her clothes into her luggage.
“Well,” Ryeowook started a small grin playing on her lips, “We’re going to Japan! And we’re going to watch Kyu’s concert!”
“But why? And how?” Sungmin asked.
“You silly goose. No more questions from you. Just get your ass to the airport A.S.A.P” Ryeowook pushed Sungmin all the way from her room to the car and they drove off.
Since then Sungmin had learnt to never, ever, in her lifetime let Ryeowook drive again because Ryeowook apparently does not know of the existence of a handy tool called brakes.
“You could’ve killed me. How on Earth did you even manage to get your driver’s license in the first place?” Sungmin said between pants while her friend hopped off and began unloading their luggage.
“Because I’m plain awesome.” She answered and earned a playful slap from her friend.
~
The lights dimmed and the fans took it as a cue to pull out their light sticks. They started chanting and in minutes the concert began with Kyuhyun jumping out of a large hole in the floor.
“Woah he’s so cool. How did you even manage to get him to marry you?”
“I don’t know he kind of sounds off today.” Ryeowook eyes her friend carefully.
“I don’t hear a difference though, you sure you’re not imagining things? It could be the jet lag.”
“No I’m sure. He isn’t usually this… flat.” Sungmin replied and Ryeowook couldn’t help but smile to herself.
~
“Sungmin you go back to the hotel first, I have something to do.”
“What do you have to do in Japan?”
“Things. Now hurry up and go.” Ryeowook ran away before Sungmin could ask any more questions. In the end, she made her way back to the hotel alone.
Meanwhile Ryeowook was sneaking around the backstage of the concert hall. It was a good thing she bumped into Yesung and persuaded (forced) him to cooperate with her. “Why the hell do I have to anyway?”
“Because you’re the idiot that planned this bloody concert.”
“Ok what do we have to do?”
“Nothing much really just get Kyuhyun to go to our hotel room and Mr. Mistletoe will do the rest.”
Yesung raised an eyebrow at the person named Mr. Mistletoe. “You have heard of the Mistletoe theory, right?”
“What about the Mistletoe theory?” Kyuhyun asked popping out of nowhere causing Ryeowook to jump.
Ryeowook struggled to think of a good ad-lib. Luckily Yesung was quick to get Kyuhyun away by saying he should hurry up go rest for the next day’s performance and that he shouldn’t believe the nonsense that girls spout. Soon the two drove off to the hotel. Ryeowook heaved a sigh of relief and made a mental note to thank him later.
~
“Oh Kyu I have some admin things regarding the concert to take care of so you go up first alright.” He lied handing him the key courtesy of Ryeowook.
Kyuhyun nodded and went up to the room he had been assigned.
“Ah Ryeowook you’re back. Could you pass me the towel? I kind of took them all out of the bathroom and forgot to put them back…”
‘Sungmin? And did she just call me Ryeowook?’ “Sungmin is that you?”
“Of course it’s me did you hit your head or something?” Sungmin shouted. “Um could you hurry up, it’s kind of cold in here.”
Kyuhyun decided to hand her the towel anyways. This was probably the biggest mistake ever. As soon as he walked into the bathroom, Sungmin hearing the footsteps opened the door expecting to find a towel in Ryeowook’s hand and only a towel in Ryeowook’s hand.
What she saw was a different story. In front of her was Kyuhyun, with his mouth wide open and holding a towel. “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!” she slapped him, hard and quickly closed the door.
“Min I’m sorry.”
“You ought to be. Who passes a towel like that anyway?! You’re supposed to stand at the side and extend your arm.”
“Like this?” Kyuhyun stood at the side and held the towel in front of the door like Sungmin had said. He heard Sungmin open the door and felt the towel being pulled from his grip before the door was closed.
“Why are you here?” Sungmin asked.
“This is my room.”
“No it’s not, it’s ours.”
“But this is the key Yesung hyung gave me.”
Suddenly Sungmin had a pretty good feeling she knew what Ryeowook’s ‘something’ was. “Yeah well there must be some mistake. Could you get out of the bathroom already?”
Kyuhyun suddenly remembered where he was and quickly rushed out of the place. He took a seat on the sofa and watched some random programs on TV. In a few minutes Sungmin came out, fully clothed this time. She sat in the seat furthest from Kyuhyun’s and the both of them sat there an awkward silence enveloping the room as neither of them dared speak.
Sungmin’s phone vibrated and Sungmin was glad to have something to distract her from the suffocating awkwardness.

Don’t lie the two of you were probably making out before I disturbed you. Anyway go to the bedroom I have a present for you. I know I gave you one already but just go.
Sungmin went into the bedroom and saw nothing that resembled a present. She ventured further into the room and tripped over a stone. “Who puts a stone in a bedroom?” she screamed while massaging her leg.
Kyuhyun heard the crash from outside and rushed to see if Sungmin was alright. As he approached her, he too tripped over the rock and landed right on top of Sungmin, lips only a few inches apart.
And then, for the strangest reason, neither of them could move despite how much they wanted to hide their blushing faces. Just a little dip and their lips met in an explosion of something neither of them had felt before.
It wasn’t the first time they kissed and yet it felt so different. So different and yet so unexplainable. When they finally broke apart, Kyuhyun rushed out of the room while Sungmin saw hanging directly above her, a green object that must have been the present Ryeowook was talking about.
It was a mistletoe.
