Our home visit for the greyhound adoption is tomorrow. I'm nervous... What if they turn us down? What do they look for? How does the home visit go? Tell me EVERYTHING! I am nervously cleaning and worrying about it.
Mary Ann already had contacted my vet when she called me. My boys are up to date so I had no worries. She also called my landlord who already gave me permission to apply.
They didn't tell me that they were bringing a hound! I hope they don't because I don't want to stress out my cats before the actual hound arrives. If they feel all insecure from a brief visitor and somewhat tramatic visitor, they might be on edge when the newbie arrives.
I am so paranoid, I have a 4 page document of questions to ask about greyhounds in general and specific questions for the candidates.
Even though I am nervous as all hell, I am glad that I am going through such a supportive group. If I picked up a pup at the pound, no one would come over and tell me the best place to put the baby gates and dog beds and help me pick the best dog for us.
That's what I really love about greyhound adoption - they are SOOOO supportive - and let me tell you about the support group of your pet passes on... I received about 40 cards from people and friends both that I knew and that I only knew from the greyhound message board. It was very touching and I've saved every one.
If you are unsure on the cats - I would lock them up in a seperate room - I can't speak for GPA, but the other groups brought a hound with them.
Once you get your hound - seriously get an account on greytalk - they love not only the nervous new owner questions (and they give great, practical advice) but they super duper love the goofy dorky pictures loving on the hounds - ESPECIALLY DRESS UP PICS! Go look at some sites for costume contests! You will sooooooooo win!
But if you need anymore encouragement - here's Bumper (ps - Skip loves the cats even more than Bumper did - our only regret is that Skip and Bumper never met - they would have been inseperable):
I have read about a year's worth of threads on greytalk and I tried to apply but they do not accept applications from free email accounts such as Hotmail which is all that I have. :(
I love that pic.
This weekend, I was feeling impatient so I went to a meet and greet and was hugging and petting all the pups and as I was telling someone that my house visit was this weekend - a lady from behind me asked me my name and winked and said "I'll see you on Wednesday".
I'm taking a week off of work to help our hound ajust so exepect A LOT of pictures.
