Commiserations on the Toronto lifestyle. That's one of the reasons I never felt comfortable there (even during short stays). You've put into words a good portion of the unease that I felt.
Interestingly, one of the things that helped me get back to me after a frantic couple of weeks was reading. I know that you read a ridiculous amount for that degree you are working on, but I picked up two books and read them both as a guilty pleasure. It didn't do a whole lot for my sleep patters last week, but it was fantastic for my mental state.
