Absolutely you can get second-degree burns without noticing. Think of really serious sunburns, for instance.
A second-degree burn which is 3/4 inch long and about the width of a match is gonna be annoying and painful, but in no way dangerous or serious. Put a band-aid over it to keep it from getting irritated.
If the blister pops and the loose skin peels off, it can be really annoying, Keeping a band-aid over it is especially helpful at that point.
And maybe bring some Gatorade for the next time you're dancing, too.
"Is there anything I can do about this, aside from the obvious "don't rest your computer on bare skin for extended periods of time"?" I'd bought one of these but the laptop died before it had a chance to prove its worth. Now I'm sorry I returned it because I could have given it to you.
"But I think part of the problem was that I was also coming down with something..." Or possibly your body is reacting you your overdoing things that night. And... well... you're getting older. Dancing about for hours in a super-hot crowded room may not be so easy on you any more.
Seconding the suggestion to take along Gatorade, or something similar, for your next trip.
