Meg is right about the freezing. One of my favorite things to freeze is fresh pesto. My Dad has a huge herb garden on the Cape and grows lots of fresh basil, which we then turn into homemade pesto. Because the basil doesn't last too long, we'll make tons of pesto at once, and then put the excess into ice cube trays to freeze. Then when you decide to use the pesto, just plop the frozen cube onto your pasta and put it in the microwave for about a minute. This way you can enjoy fresh summer pesto well into the fall (if you don't eat it all up first!).

one pesto ice cube = one perfectly sized portion of pesto

P.S. epicurious.com is one of my favorite web sites!
