Early History
Decus' story begins back during his childhood days. He grew up at an orphanage in Hima along with other children. One day, travelers had come to Hima and were robbed. One was even killed. Everyone believed Decus had did it and no one would listen to his pleas. It was the orphanage director and his son that killed the man, not Decus! But it was his word against theirs. He was lynched, ready to be killed. Not a single soul from the orphanage lifted a finger to help him.
[HC] It's not as if he expected any help. He hadn't had anyone as far as he could remember. He never knew his parents. The kids at the orphanage rejected him. In turn, he began to dislike people all together. But there was one who payed attention to Decus. One who acknowledged him. One who made him feel ... loved.
That girl's name was Alice. She too had a hard time at the orphanage. But her reason was much more valid than his according to society. She was a half-elf. Humans and elves alike despised half-elves. He had become friends with her. His first and only friend at the time. Perhaps that's why he wasn't liked by others at the orphanage.[END]
Suddenly monsters attacked that day. The orphanage was completely destroyed. The director, his son, and the adventurers ... all were killed. The one responsible for this was Alice, which in turn saved his life. From that day forth, he devoted his life to Alice. He swore to follow her wherever she should go; whatever she decided to do. His life was hers forever more.
Pre-Symphonia 2 Life
[HC] After leaving Hima with Alice, they both traveled aimlessly to find their place in the world. As time went on, Alice grew more and more bitter towards the world. Decus on the other hand began to lose the anger he gained from his early near-death experience. Still, he couldn't bring himself to trust anyone other than Alice.
One day, word reached him that the Chosen had began her journey for World Regeneration. Not that it had much to do with him, but rumors spread that the group had half-elves among them. He felt a slight bond between himself and the human members of that group despite never having met them. Alice was a half-elf. He loved her. The Chosen of Regeneration's group had half-elves. So they couldn't be all bad. While it was on the back of his mind to meet the group one day, it never came to be during this phase of his life.
Around 6 or 7 years later (which was the beginning ages of the fused worlds of Sylvarant and Tethe'alla), they met another half-elf named Richter Abend. Not that Decus cared (okay so he did), but Alice seemed to take a liking to the other half-elf. This eventually led to them joining the Vanguard, a group bent on bringing power to Sylvarant. [END]
Recent Life
About a year and a half later, the Vanguard came across Solum's Core, a Centurion's core that allows the wielder to change their appearance into whatever they want. Decus was given this and assigned to disguise himself as Lloyd, the hero of the World Regeneration group. As Lloyd, he was to lead the Church of Martel to attack the Vanguard in Palmacosta, one of Sylvarant's cities. By doing so, the people of Sylvarant would believe that Tethe'alla was beginning conflict thus bringing more people to side with the Vanguard.
[HC] First off, Decus wasn't for this plan to begin with. While he didn't have much regard for anyone's life other than Alice's, he had a soft spot for kids. No doubt that some of them could possibly be killed in the incident. But once he was given Solum's Core, he felt himself blanking out during phases of the day. [END]
A half year after that, he continues to bring Solum's core with him doing more jobs under the guise of Lloyd Irving. He meets Emil for the first time in Flanoir, a snow city in Tethe'alla, in the church right after having killed innocent people.
[HC] The reason for him going to the church was to pray that should karma ever strike back at him, that it won't involve Alice. Even though he couldn't remember killing the many people that he had in both Palmacosta and Flanoir, it didn't make him any less guilty of it. By the time Emil reached the church, Decus had finished his prayer. [END]
So instead of seeing a serious man in repentance, Emil was introduced to the goofy side of ol' lovable Decus. For anyone that knew Decus a few years back, it was apparent that he'd warmed up to other people. At least a lot more than Alice had. He even gave Emil some of his(Decus) oh-so-loved Eau de Seduction, which would kill the nose of anyone else who smelled it other than Decus himself.
As Emil became more involved in the battle for the Centurion's Cores, he and Decus crossed paths on many more occasions. One of the biggest being when the original Lloyd Irving and Decus faking to be Lloyd crossed blades. Alice had kidnapped Zelos Wilder's younger sister; which caused a meeting between Decus, Emil, and the original members of the World Regeneration heroes. Decus disguise was revealed that day and he took quite a beating. (Four on one isn't the most fair of matches after all.)
Just Before Splendorocity
Once more, Decus met Emil and his travel group in Hima where he explained to them his past. Despite Emil's attempts to stop Decus from heading to the Ginnungagap, Decus' will doesn't waver. He swears that his life is Alice's and nothing more. As a last act before leaving, he destroys a demon's bone which will stop monsters from ravaging Hima.
The time had finally come. Decus and Alice vs. Emil and Marta (plus two monsters but who's counting right?). The battle was intense, bone shattering, and flesh ripping. Steel met steel. Fist met bone. Magic meant pain for the unfortunate recipient. The battle came to its climax. Decus and Alice seemed to be on the losing side until Alice pulled out a small trick that knocked Marta to the ground. Just as Alice was going to beat Marta down, Emil came to the rescue. But Alice didn't stop. She started to beat Emil with her rapier and soon enough his tolerance hit its max.
Decus saw everything in slow motion. Emil's blade slowly rose from the air ready to cut Alice in half. Despite the pain he was in, Decus ran with a speed like never before to reach her. He threw his body expecting to feel steel rip through his spine and flesh ... and then everything suddenly whited out for him.
Personality:
Most of this is based off of pure cannon from Tales of Symphonia 2. Just a few additions referring to HC.
Dependence on Alice
Decus personality is virtually centered around Alice. In Symphonia 2, everyone thought he was a mindless slave. Of course, until they learn about his past, they have no reason to think otherwise. He's been with Alice all his life and as I stated as a (HC), she was his only friend at the orphanage. When he's with her, his personality shines the brightest. Not that he isn't goofy around others, but in a way he wants to be like that with Alice. He knows how hard both their pasts are and in turn worries about her want for power. As a result, he tries to do his best to make her happy in whatever way he can whether that means obeying her orders to a tee or random acts of affection.
By Himself
As time went on in Decus life, he began to let go of his grudge against people (HC reference). He isn't as lively or charismatic around others like he is around Alice nearly 90% of the time, but tends to let his true personality show every so often as seen with Emil. For those that have never seen him goof around, they might take him as in a permanent drunken stupor. And for those that have only seen him be goofy, seeing his serious side might somewhat shock them. Overall, while he may be all natural around others, that doesn't mean he trust them.
With Other Guys
There's not much to say beyond he's a bit more open to girls than guys. He's been around Alice his entire life so he feels a bit of a norm communicating with a girl. Though his small interactions with Emil, both good and bad, may have changed his outlook on guys just a bit.
With Girls
As stated, he'll probably be closer to girls than guys in the beginning. Without Alice around, his attention will have nothing to focus on which means he might occasionally be embarrassed with a tint of red should he ever bond with any of the girls should he be teased about anything that's blush worthy. Not to say he'd forget about Alice. [HC] He also has a bit of a thing for
girls with blue hair. Maybe it's just because he has blue hair too.
Dominant Parts of Personality
Carefree - Conflicts come and go. Angers may rise, but Decus' barely ever rises unless it deals with Alice. He seems to take everything with a grain of salt otherwise. Whether someone's a friend one moment and an enemy the other, he's like a wave that just goes with the flow. Should he happen to create bonds with others over time may change that.
Ego - As stated before, he isn't lacking in self-confidence. This could be more or less because of how he was viewed by everyone at the orphanage. No one had expectations for him, nor cared for him. So what does he have to prove to anyone but Alice? As far as he's concerned he's Dashing, Undaunted, Majestic, Brilliant, and Oh-so-handsome just as Alice made him out to be (which is totally not what she meant) by the name DUMBO Decus. Sometimes his ego may even get to the point where he thinks everyone may love him. Back in Flanoir, he thought Emil had fallen in love with him thanks to his cologne.
Trust - As touched on multiple times (mostly from HC), he doesn't truly trust anyone but Alice. He'd follow her into the depths of oblivion and back if he had to. Though his grudge has lessened over people in general all these years, so it's likely that he could come to form a bond with him should he ever open up.
Devoted/Stubborn - He's one of the best people to have in your corner whether during a fight or as a friend. So far he's only had devotion for Alice, but it hasn't ever wavered, not even once. He even fought to the death for her and almost died before being whisked away. If there's something he sets his mind to, he won't stop until it's done or a force important enough in his life stops him (like Alice has on a few occasions).
Enthusiasm - Mostly his goofy antics have only been for Alice, but he isn't adverse to doing them in front of other people. He had to deal with a dreary childhood, so he loves to lighten up the mood whenever possible. Even during serious moments, a few choice words and actions could turn frowns into smiles or at least a few what the hell faces.
Intelligence - By no means is Decus the smartest person in the bunch. He's assumed to be pretty stupid. Alice always finds a way to remind him of that. In reality, he's not oblivious or stupid to the point of just being idiotic. Most things he does are with a purpose and even will sometimes play the fool just for the sake of cheering up the mood as said above.
Insecurities - While he has self-confidence, he also has a few of these when Alice isn't around (HC). They aren't ever apparent for the most part, but he may start to get uncomfortable and close up based on his lack of trust.
Seriousness - When Decus does find a reason to be serious, watch out. He's not one to spout out curse words or make threats, but he knows how to put his foot down. Though this shouldn't show up much unless someone he trust greatly is threatened. And by trust, it has to be a high trust.
General Summary
80% of the time he'll be goofy and warm, despite not trusting anyone. Consider it a facade of hiding how he might truly feel about a given situation. He won't get mad easily and takes almost nothing to heart unless it's about Alice. Should he ever form bonds with other people, it's possible that some changes could be seen such as him speaking his opinion more, but other than that Decus will be cool headed and inwardly distant.
Extra:
Character Abilities: Decus is pretty much your average Great (Broad) Swordsman. He can do a few tricks called artes, which are basically attack moves in the Tales of series.
Note: In a hax of the game he had more skills to use like an inverted moves which can be viewed
here.
Possessions: He carries an iron maiden with him; his sword inside it. And he always has a picture of "his" Alice with him at all times of the day.
Anything else: His cologne, Eau de Seduction, is basically a killer on the nose, but since it wasn't brought up much towards the end game, it'll be assumed that he either A) Lost it during the last battle - or - B) Ran out of it.
Hmmm ... and ... he's a 24 year old that hasn't gotten a first kiss yet (HC). So not that anyone would ever find out but if anyone were to bring it up if he gets closer to people, let the stutters begin.

Start Log/Prose
[It was just another day. Another day to walk with no destination. Another day to ponder life's lessons. Just another day to ... to ... wait, just what the hell was he supposed to be doing? Oh yeah, looking for the Chosen of Regeneration. It's not that he didn't find her before ... but ...]
Way to go Decus. You just had to be a nice guy...
[Chivalry wasn't dead right? Well if it was then insert a head drop here. Yes, Alice did tell him to take the crystal at any cost. But he just didn't have the heart to take it from the klutzy girl. She had no only tripped into a food stand, but caused a domino effect for another stand to fall. Well ... first off the stands should of been more sturdy.
Somehow he ended up paying for all the damages too. He had to facepalm at that. He didn't care for anything but Alice, so why did he even ... that's it ... that's it! It's the hair. Alice has whitish blond hair. And Colette is a blond. It's only natural that he'd be nice to her.]
Well well now, I brainstormed without even thinking hard. I'm just too good!
[With that self-declaration out the way, it was time he found his target. Even nice guys have to be mean here and there right?]
