Part Two Jared's first date, Nicki, is a small blond woman with wide, sharp eyes. She's funny and smart, and Jared is actually enjoying their date until their conversation takes an abrupt turn. "So, Jared," Nicki asks, "have you ever had a stalker?"
He isn't sure if she's asking because she's had one or because she is one. "Uh... not that I'm aware of, no."
She nods and continues to stare at him, causing Jared to squirm in his seat with its intensity. She doesn't make any direct attempts to answer Jared's unspoken question about having one or being one. He isn't sure if not knowing is making him more uncomfortable.
When they part ways, Nicki pulls him into a tight hug against her small frame and grins. "We should do this again soon. I'll see you around, Jared." She grins and winks, squeezing Jared's bicep before heading down the street, and it's all Jared can do to pray that she didn't mean that the way that he thinks she might've.

Jared's second date doesn't go much better.
He's about fifteen minutes late when he finally stumbles into the restaurant, still trying to get his tie to well, tie properly. Jared looks up briefly for a moment to watch where he's going when a flash of blond catches his eye, and then there's a momentary flood of panic when his mind jumps back to his date with Nicki.
But then the woman turns around and she's got these hooded green eyes that look nothing like Nicki's and Jared relaxes.
His date is sitting alone at the table where a lone candle flickers solemnly, and the man looks up when he approaches the table. Milo, Jared thinks his name is, has this watery expression on his face. That, he decides, cannot be a good sign.
When Jared introduce himself, "Hi, I'm Jared. So sorry I'm late," Milo smiles brightly, stark contrast to the closed off expression he had when Jared arrived. "I wasn't sure you were going to show up," Milo tells Jared, and there's a slight waver to his voice. "But I would have understood if you hadn't." He heaves a sigh, and Jared makes a mental note to tread carefully with this one.
Three hours later Jared walks out with a sleeveful of Milo's tears and a firm resolution to ask about any personality "quirks" before setting up any other dates.

"Get your ass dressed you lazy son of a bitch," Chad shouts as he comes into Jensen's apartment. "Shower and get cleaned up. I've set up a date for you this afternoon. Dog park. This guy will get you out of this stupid funk, I guarantee it."
Jensen blinks bleary eyes open. "Guy?"
"If the shoe fits, Jensen. You're meeting him in an hour an a half." Chad throws the profile printout at Jensen's head and goes into the kitchen to steal a beer.
At the mention of a dog park, there's the telltale clack of nails on the floor and a wide eyed, large eared beauty of a dog trots into the room and rests her head on Jensen's bed. He looks down at his most recently adopted family member. "Hey girl," he says softly, and her soft pink tongue licks across the palm of his hand.
"An hour and a half you say?" Jensen asks when he finally reaches the kitchen, glaring at Chad taking advantage of what hospitality Jensen is willing to to continue offering. He has the balled up profile in his hand and raises an eyebrow with a "Huh."

Harley is running around the dog park barking and chasing other dogs playfully. He bounds between little children with their parents and teenagers out on dates and back to Jared who is sitting on the bench, watching fondly. Across the park, Jared sees a familiar coat, gait and bark. "Sadie?" he says aloud. "Sadie!"
The dog turns her head and then she's running towards Jared full steam. "Hey girl," Jared says scitching her behind her ears and rubbing at her stomach. "How're you doing you pretty girl?" he coos.
"Sorry about that," says a male voice and Jared looks up, grinning. "She got away from me there. Kind of a new addition to the, well, not family, but she's a new addition." Jared sits up and lets go of Sadie with an affectionate pat on the head. She whines pitifully and leans into him. "Oh. I'm Jensen, by the way."
Jared reaches out his hand. "Jared. Nice to meet you."
Jensen grins and motions at Sadie. "She's a pretty one, isn't she."
"Yeah." And Jared's got a crease between his brow as he turns his attention back to the dog. "Where'd you say you got her?"
"Got her from a close friend, actually. Got married a while back, then decided they didn't want the dog after all. This is Sadie, by the way."
Jared shifts uncomfortably. He has a tight feeling in his gut. "Your friend mention why they wouldn't want a nice dog like her?"
Jensen shrugs, running his hands lovingly over Sadie's head. "Not really anything specific other than his wife isn't really a dog person, and unfortunately they're both a bit too busy to take care of her. He thought it would be best to give her a good home."
Jared watches the way that Jensen lavishes attention on Sadie, obvious affection, and he's at least glad that while Sadie wasn't welcome with Jeff and Sandy - because there's no one else who could have given Jensen his dog - he was with someone who seemed genuinely pleased to have her around.
Jared felt his chest go suddenly tight with longing to have his girl back, reaching out to stroke his fingers over the soft skin of her ears and smiling sadly when she licked his wrist.
At that moment, Harley came bounding over, snuffling at Sadie and letting out a pleased howl at her familiar scent, turning around in a circle and curling up next to her where she was sitting on the grass between Jensen and Jared. "And who's this?" Jensen asks, crouching down to rub a hand down Harley's coat.
There's something about watching this stranger be so comfortable with Jared's dogs that makes Jared feel both incredibly relaxed and strangely uneasy. "Harley." His voice is tight with emotion and he tries desperately to swallow it down. Jensen is making soft cooing noises at Harley, reaching down to rub at Harley's belly, and Harley rolls over helplessly with his legs in the air, panting and squirming.
It's suddenly too much and Jared stands up suddenly. "I - This was a bad idea." He reaches for Harley's leash, with no intent to attach it and calls Harley's name. "I'm sorry, Jensen. This is just," he glances down at Sadie again and sighs. "I'm sorry." And then they're walking back towards Jared's truck, and he wants to cry at the disappointed sound that Sadie makes, and listening to Jensen calm her in soothing tones as she gets left behind.

At school the next day, Jared is listless and quiet. Kirsten and Tom give him questioning looks, but he only shrugs his shoulders and continues to shuffle his feet.
"Jared?" Kirsten asks at lunch, coming and resting a careful hand on his shoulder. Tom is at his right, pulling out a chair and sitting down. "Is everything okay?"
He heaves a heavy sigh and rests his head in his hands. "I had this date yesterday," he mutters sadly and Kirsten and Tom exchange looks.
"That bad?" Tom asks, hint of a joke in his tone.
Jared laughs self-deprecatingly. "This guy... He. He was nice. Someone I probably would like. Except there was. Sadie. He has Sadie."
Kirsten and Tom share another meaningful look. They both know that Sadie was Jared's girl, and a frown pulls at both their mouths, a sour twist of their lips. "Well, that's better than Sandy, isn't it?" Kirsten offers. Tom shoots her a look and shakes his head.
Jared looks up at Kirsten with wide eyes. "What is that supposed to mean?"
Kirsten is at a loss for words. "Uh... I...."
"She just means that at least she's with someone who appreciates her, right? I mean, this guy at least seems like he's taking care of her doesn't he?"
Jared smiles tightly. "Yeah. Yeah, he does."
The tension breaks and Kirsten finally pulls out a chair and sits down. "So, what, you had a date? What did he look like? What's his name? Fill us in, Padalecki!"

"Jensen man, how'd it go?"
Chad's in his kitchen flicking through some letters as Jensen makes his second pot of coffee.
"Well. Sort of. I don't really know, to be honest. Sadie ran over when he whistled - which was how I found him in the first place. So then we talked a bit about her and his dog, Harley, by the way.. then he got weird all of a sudden and said it was a bad idea and ran off." Jensen stares hard at his hands on the counter and waits intently for the coffee to be ready.
He looks over cautiously and sees Chad staring at him with a rare thoughtful expression. Then Chad shakes his head. "Can't believe you managed to botch that up too."
Jensen frowns and reaches for his mug.
"Go make it up to the guy! You obviously make him upset. Offer, oh, I don't know, a blow job. Or all the unlimited sexual favours he'd want. Something!" Chad waves his arms around and gestures lewdly.
Jensen scoffs. "I doubt he'll want to see me again. Ran away at full speed last time."
"Fine. Then go online and get-"
"No, Chad. No more of those matchmaking sites, thank you," Jensen interrupts and waves off the disgruntled look on his friend's face.
"Look. Did you at least like that Jared guy for the half second you spent with him?"
"Uh. Well I barely spent any time with the guy. I mean, he just sort of-"
"Just answer the question, Ackles. Did you or did you not enjoy the split second you spent with him?"
There's a pause. "Yeah, I suppose so. But we were talking about the dogs, and all I saw was how much he loves them-"
Chad interrupts Jensen again. "So hell, take a risk, you fucking dolt." He sighs and rolls his eyes. "You know you're a sucker for shit like that; cock, that is."
Jensen levels a glare and Chad. "You are such a fucking asshole, you know that, right?"
Chad shrugs and pours himself a cup of coffee, dumping several spoonfuls of sugar in and stirring. "What the fuck ever, Ackles. You just don't appreciate me and my wealth of knowledge."
