I enjoyed this story. It's interesting how the story often portrays Kahlan as more calm and stern than Cara, when we'd usually see those personality traits in Cara more so than Kahlan (well, except for when Kahlan is being quite calm and/or stern as the Mother Confessor). This story shows us how Cara likely would have been if she were not Mord-Sith.
I'm happy that you enjoyed it and thanks for commenting!
I've always thought of Cara's Mord'Sith training as a bit of an artifice covering up a pretty insecure person, at least in the series. For as much swagger as she's got in LotS, Cara also gets pretty easily ruffled in emotional, non-combat situations. Without memory of her training I figured Cara would be more emotive (like you said!). The other thing is that we get to see a lot of Cara's emotions, since the whole story is from Cara's POV, but she doesn't necessarily express all of it, even as Grace. Who knows - maybe if we could see in Kahlan's head she'd be a lot more emotional too!
Joy! ....I have spend a good amount of my afternoon immersed in this wonderful tale. You always make me happy when I am in the world you create with your words. Thank you.
It is my pleasure as always, though I shamelessly accept and enjoy all praise! ;-)
Oh, btw, I believe you were one of the folks who expressed interest in more dragons? Let's just say I think there will almost definitely be dragons in Cara and Kahlan's future. Stay tuned... :-)
This whole fic actually started with the premise of Cara giving Kahlan flowers. Then I had to figure out how to make that happen and somehow it turned into memory loss! I'm a hopeless romantic, so yeah, in my mind Cara and Kahlan are definitely fated to be together. :-)
You were one of the folks who suggested a sequel (actually, you mentioned a trilogy, if I do recall!), so I'm glad your excited! I wasn't planning on writing a sequel to 'I Will Not Surrender', but so many people liked the dragons, I couldn't resist! It will take me a while, so I beg patience from everyone, but it will happen.
Just spent a most pleasurable morning with this wonderful story. I loved the glimpse into how Cara and Kahlan could have been, and how they are simply drawn together whatever. Loved how Kahlan made the 'obvious' right decision to forfeit Richard because of her true love for Cara. Thank you :)
