I do that too - I try to make sure all my mess and clutter is nominally repaired.
I also take the time to pay all my bills prior to leaving, so I don't have to worry about dealing with any bills pending as I'm coming home, or readjusting.
I also make sure I have something to eat in the freezer - some trader joes meal or something, so when I get in, I have good food that is easy to prepare waiting for me.
And, I also leave clean pjs and stuff set out at home, so I can jump in the shower, then straight into clean comfy clothes.
And, most of all, I take Tuesday off (come home Monday), so I have a whole day to relax and recover.
We clear a path to the washing machine! There's a door from our porch to the washer, but normally it's blocked by gear. We make sure to clear it out just for our return.
making sure the house is clean (or at least tidy) is a must for me any time i leave for a vacation.
i try to do some prep work at my job to make sure i won't come back to 500 urgent emails...i talk to the people who email me most, let them know i'll be out, make sure my out of office message is working and directing people to the appropriate co-worker, etc.
boy there are some great ideas here...i'll definitely be implementing a few of these this year! great post! :)
Pre-playa-me packs post-playa-me a little kit with some deep conditioning hair stuff, really good lotion, face mask, etc etc for the night I spend in Reno on the way home.
I can't do any of my normal house-prep stuff this year, because I have a housesitter staying here with my cats while I'm gone (will be on playa 3 weeks this year), so who knows.

Also, I make sure that I have a couple of nice comfy outfit set out for myself for the weekend (I get home on a Thursday).
This year, I get home on the 8th and I have a chemotherapy appointment on the 9th, so I've got my chemo bag packed & ready for me, too.
