Why is it so goddamned hard to find out when compulsory public education was introduced in the US? Whenever I type that phrase into Google, I just get a bunch of assholes telling me what's wrong with the public education system. FUCK YOU, I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR OPINIONS.
