Wow! This is epic. The way you combined history and the series canon is intriguing. Arthur is such a good king here, it's like a realization of what the series is just giving us a glimpse of. He wants what is best for his people and his kingdom; and he'll do whatever it takes even if he doesn't like it. And I like that Merlin is confident in his power and also a leader in his own right. Also, I love that the banter is still evident:

The Druid looked Arthur up and down, obviously sizing him up as much as Arthur had been. "So this is King Arthur," he said, sounding unimpressed. "Huh. I thought you'd be taller."

"I'm sorry to disappoint," Arthur answered him, unsure of how to respond to that. "If it's any consolation, you're a lot scrawnier than I expected."

Ahaha they're already insulting each other seconds after they meet. Yep, that's Arthur and Merlin alright. I really enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing.

wow this was great!
i was just doing some research of my own for the fic im writing, so it was great to see a lot of the same facts here. even before you introduced merlin, you said ambrosias aurelius and i knew exactly who you were talking about lol

excellent job, i thought it was well-written and the emotion between arthur and merlin was lovely.

BB, you know how much I utterly adore this fic, even if I'm not in the Merlin fandom. You've done an amazing job with this, and you should be proud of how well this turned out.

This was lovely, a very nice blend of history/legends and the BBC Merlin's versions of the characters. I loved Merlin and Arthur's first meeting and also enjoyed how mature Arthur was and how self-assured Merlin seemed to be. I like the fact that Arthur had some problems with magic, even though he was so attracted to Merlin (and trusted him). I always thought that magic would present a dilemma for him at the times, as in the light of the chivalric code it does look like cheating, doesn't it? (On the other hand, not to use whatever weapon you have at your disposal is in certain circumstances irresponsible at best...)

Anyway, I really enjoyed it. Thanks for writing it :)

This was really lovely Celeste, and I'm so glad you've written it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the blend with the earliest documents of Arthur and Merlin with the characters we know and adore!
