Kase was glad that Offensive came before Defensive class. She usually managed better in Defense, so she at least started fresh in her worst subject of the day. Of course, it meant she was usually too worn out by the time Defensive class started to do well, but she could survive Defensive better, leaving her doing generally horrible all around, but still in one piece

"I would say I'm fine, but I'd be lying," Phoebe said wearily. "And you'd be able to tell right off the bat, because my thoughts of 'Ahh, the pain!' are probably ... radiating, for lack of a better word, out of my head right now. And even if they weren't, I'm such a horrid liar that you'd know anyway. And, I'm rambling. I don't think I'd be rambling if I was all right - actually, I do tend to ramble, don't I? Oh." She paused, her brow furrowed, but she managed the strength to lift her head up and beam with all the strength she had left in her at her friend

Kase chuckled, but nodded to acknowledge that her friend's statements were all true, "Yeah, they pretty much are. Not that I need that; today was an awfully hard lesson to start off the new year with, don't you think? Can't they ever cut us some slack around here?" she picked up the floppy dog stuffed animal that sat on her bed and cradled it against her chest. She could use the soft, cuddly comfort of it, she thought. She smiled, "I don't mind it, you know. It makes it lots easier for me. You just say everything. I don't have to listen to your thoughts as hard as everyone else's."
Kase would usually agree with Phoebe on that. She hated being dishonest about anything, and she hated playing mind games with people. But because her worst class happened to be the one that was rather life-or-death to them all, she didn't want anyone to know. She refused to let her friends forever fight for her and be totally useless and defenseless. If she couldn't help them all, the least she could do was learn to defend herself so they wouldn't have to

"It was tough," Phoebe agreed exuberantly, or as exuberantly as she could make herself sound. "I think I'm going to be sore for weeks." Well, perhaps an exaggeration, but still - her point was made. She would probably be in too much tiredness to move until about... oh, thirty minutes, where the obligation to get up and prepare for PC would kick on. Curse that obligation. "Well, glad I'm helping you out, then," she giggled, "though you know, talking isn't much of an effort for me, even when I am dead-tired, apparently." She managed to roll herself over fully, to easier face her friend
