Does anyone remember the big massive concern that the PS2's CPU could be used in missile guidance systems?

If this were true, I wonder if they are -still- concerned about that? So... with that being the case.. thinking that the PS2 could be used as a weapon... I wonder what the 360 and PS3 could be used for?

I do not recall that, but now that you mention it is pretty damn funny.

Heh, *nod* Yeahp.
Truth be told, the playstation 2 was classified as a military weapon when it was first released in Japan and that was part of the reason for the strict export control. Others say that it was just a publicity deal Sony was using to pump people up for the system. And others claim it was a very lame way to get people to hate on Iraq; using the fact that people couldn't buy one of the 4000 +/- systems that got purchased here and shipped over to into Iraq. It's like some people say, if they wanted to get their hands on CPUs, they could have.. but ya never know. *shrug*

>.< Why do I suddenly get this strange feeling you're going to be the next Tony Stark?

"What? Missile guidance system on the cheap???... Hrm.. I'll need 2 Nintendo DS systems, 2 PS2s, an APEX DVD player, a Jensen 200 watt amp, and a set of pickups for an electric guitar."

Well, the PS3 (or rather, 200 of them...still a rather cheap sueprcomputer) has already been used to completely bork SSL, the web security algorithm. http://hackaday.com/2008/12/30/25c3-hackers-completely-break-ssl-using-200-ps3s/ So yeah, that's definitely a devious weapon-y usage. Also, I dunno about the 360 (as I sure don't have the money for this stuff) but modding the original XBOX was pretty easy, and I've seen clusters of them used to render 3d animation. You could theoretically, you know, do more malicious things with them. The one I have has a whole operating system installed you can run pretty much anything in Perl, Java, Python, etc. Lots of malicious code out there!
