Hi all. Look who the cat dragged in eh! I have decided that 2017 is, if nothing else, going to be the year I get back into livejournal and I don’t let go
( Read more... )
Omg THANKYOU so much for being here and making me want to be here (lj and actually the world tbh) by writing this. Is your true crime reading group gonna be online/irl? I am very excited about getting into true crime more which is a bit conflicting in itself but getting excited about anything feels like a big deal these days haha
Awhh thank you so much babe, that is honestly a beautiful thing to say, that's really moved me. :'')))
It's gonna be irl, here in Manchester (I'm gonna try and hold it in the Central Library maybe? but idk how late they open/haven't settled on a time or day yet/etc) but now you mention it an online presence for it is a very good idea - could put some stuff up on my research blog? Or start its own one? That way people could sort of partially follow on at home/catch up on missed stuff? Hmmmmmm I like this idea, need to think about it more - let me know if you have any suggestions!
Well to be honest I really feel like true crime is getting a lit less problematic as a genre, like the focus these days is a lot more on institutions and their practises, so, idk. Obviously thats not uniformly true across the board but it makes me feel like less conflicted abt it as a whole. Haha YES grab it with both hands!!! Excitement is so rare and precious especially rn. Don't let it get away!
oh awesome a book group really appeals to me! I have been really into all the true crime podcasts that have been doing the rounds since serial season one really. Then I read the west memphis three book last year. I just ordered dark heart by kevin flynn and rebecca lavoie who both co-host the crime writers on podcast so I am hoping that will be good. Also want to read the Truman Capote book in cold blood - tho I saw the film already I think I'll enjoy reading it
also unnecessary additional reply to say: I love that icon! I always have. I can still remember when you first added it and asking you about it and you told me it was from the Kiss Kiss Bang Band credits. I intended to watch that film as a result but then I never got around to it and still haven't seen it.
WHAT A WEIRD LEVEL OF DETAIL TO REMEMBER and yet I routine forget how to use the find my iphone app for e.g. Thanks brain! (I prefer knowing about this tho)
Yes! We watched again recently and I spent the whole of the credits going, Ooh, I had an icon of that bit, and that bit, and that bit...! (This one in particular I recall spending ages clone-tool-ing out the crew member's name that was written on top.) I love that you remember!
Yuppp, well, it worked for me anyway! If you wanted to join the postgrad support gang btw you would be welcome: www.facebook.com/groups/PostgradDiscussion/
Yeah I hope veganuary goes better for me this year than last though - I didn't plan ahead at all and was really half arsed and so ended up living on bread and avocadoes mostly.
I don't have answers for trying to do and sustain activism since I fail so badly in this too, but as P said to me in the days after Brexit when I was just lying in bed inert and staring at twitter and the news I'm always already doing it when I teach and write - not just angry politics, but compassion and empathy and courage. All things that are valuable and necessary in this long fight.
Also, it's odd but when you were posting about Kasper on the group it never quite twigged but of course now I read this I realise I knew him distantly too through here, and I'm so sorry.
