A/N: The part after this is where the fun starts... ;D
We get to the club, and Charlie is out right away from the back entrance. He doesn’t speak, just walks straight past us and I wonder what’s going on until James ushers me to follow him. He gets into his car, and James climbs into the back so I gather I’m doing the same. After a few minutes fiddling around with the adjustments to his car after I’d altered things to fit me a little we pull away from the curb and zoom off down the road.
I would have thought for someone who treasures his car so much that he’d drive a little more carefully, but clearly not. I hold on for dear life as it doesn’t seem to be mafia-road-safety to do up your belt.
James doesn’t seem to be fazed by the speed we’re going, he’s looking out the window, his tongue poking out the corner of his mouth ever so slightly. I smile at this as I hold onto the door handle to keep myself from thrashing about the back seat.
We drive in silence, even though I’m expecting James to come out with some crap again, but he doesn’t, he sits in silence. I try to get him to look at me, by looking at him and hoping that he catches me doing so out of the corner of his eye, but he’s too distracted by looking at the blur as we pass the streets to fast to focus on anything specific. The car comes to a halt and we get out. “Right, Matt.” Charlie starts, slinging his arms around my shoulders, leaning heavily on me but I don’t comment on it. “We’ve got to get you looking the part, for something I want you to do for me.”
He smiles at me and leads me into the shop we’ve parked outside, James following idly behind us. It’s a swanky shop that looks like the chandelier in the centre of the ceiling cost more than a mansion. Charlie walks around before looking back at me. He observes me for a short time, tilting his head to the one side. He then turns back round, walking through the shop pulling out random suits and placing them over his right arm.
Leading me to the changing rooms he ushers me inside, and hangs up the clothes. “Show me when you’ve got one on.” He orders before drawing the curtain to a clothes and I stifle a giggle as he sounded just like my mother then!
I look at the first suit, a very ordinary suit, much like the ones they’re both wearing today. Once I have it on and have checked that I look okay in it I pull the curtain back and stand to wait for him to comment. “That’ll do.” He comments coolly, his hands on his hips. “They’re all the same size so you know we’ll get them all.”
“But I really don’t have much mo-“
“I’ll pay for them, don’t worry, I didn’t pay you for yesterday yet so we’ll just settle it at this. I’ve got some stuff for you to do when we get back to the club, now change back into your clothes so we can get all this.”
I nod at him and shut the curtain back to. Once I’ve taken off the suit and sorted it back out on the hangers I count up the prices of all the suits. There are eight suits in total, and lets just say they’re all a decent price. I smirk to myself and then pull my clothes back on and lift all the suits into my arms. I draw back the curtains and a Sales Assistant is ready there waiting to take them off me. We all follow him to the Pay desk as he bills up the suits.
They’re packed neatly into those black bag type things you see with posh suits and then Charlie hands the cash over in a big wad. We’re out of the shop not long after and I’m back in the back seat of Charlie’s car with James. He hasn’t said a word since we got to the club a first time, and I can’t help but think that maybe Charlie stops him from being his normal self.
There’s no doubt that if it was just us two he’d be telling me about how coal mines make me people dirty. Okay maybe not, but I can’t think up random shite like that. I guess I don’t have the intelligence, or something.
We get back to the club and Charlie tells me to wait in the main area. It’s strange in the day, for one it’s closed, so it’s empty, but it’s still got a club vibe to it. You can just picture the people in there from the night before, and still feel the cloud of smoke that hovers around.
I sit on one of the bar stools and watch Charlie walk James away, with his arm slung around James’ shoulders. He uses his other hand to talk with and make gestures to emphasize his point. I shouldn’t really be getting jealous over this.
And my fists should definitely not be balling into fists.
And steam shouldn’t be coming out of my ears.
Okay steam isn’t actually coming out of my ears; in fact I would be quite concerned if it was!
They disappear and I’m left alone for a while, making my own fun by swinging side to side on the stool and humming a Blink song. I stop when I notice Charlie returning, a little disappointed that James isn’t with him any longer, but we won’t think about that, okay? “Right, Matt, I have some work for you.” He takes a seat next to me. In his hand he holds a few papers and things, which he rests down on the bar’s surface and spins me round so I’m facing into the bar again. “Right then, let’s get this sorted.”
I nod to him and he begins telling me the details of my next job.
