you really need a diagnostic scanner to see what the sensors are reporting when the problem is occurring. Also, there may be pending codes that never turn on the check engine light.
i DO need to get a scan tool for my car... i was reading something somewhere about how the scan tool you can use from autozone might not work correctly with my vehicle... i need to get a "vag-com" tool, which i have been shopping for, looking for a good deal
( ... )
as a side note regarding the fuel pump thought: another thing that i think is weird is that i can't hear my fuel pump "whining" when i key on the ignition, however it seems to work (for a while, anyway)
only when it's hot?? If you hear it when it's cold, but not hot, that's a major concern.
before the engine is running, the pump should only run for 5-10 seconds with the key on. after that it shuts off - just a priming shot. When you turn the key to start, the pump should run continuously. if the engine starts, the fuel pump should stay on until the ignition is turned to accessory or off.
