I don't have a proper job - as in paid employment. When people ask me if I work I reply "Yes, I work very hard, but I'm not in paid employment, if that's what you mean". So what I do is what is starting to be called Portfolio voluntary work, which sounds pretty posh I think ( Read more... )

In 1982 I was pregnant with Steven, and Paul was only three. I never made it to Glastonbury or Greenham Common. However, I DID edit the local CND Newsletter, march in London and march to a local US airbase... and I met Bruce Kent. Also we had Greenham Women to visit us and give talks etc. and I used to leaflet houses (and run off in case I got punched). And I got called a lesbian.
Good times, nothing like a common enemy to bring people together...It was better in our day, when WMD really existed not like the invisible made-up ones they have now.

Now you see you were the real thing, I was just freeloading for the sex, drugs and rock and roll...my convictions went back and forth depending on which party the good looking guys belonged to. The sad thing at Glastonbury was that the guy was too stoned for the sex, the drugs you've already heard about, and I can't remember who the Rock and roll were, except I seem to remember that JAckson Brown came in to it somewhere.

Did you get to touch the Greenham Woman, or did you just see her from a long way off??? Kudos to you if you touched her, but not in a Lesbian way (unless that was your choice in which case...oh whatever...)

I can't remember if I touched her but she told us about going to prison for her beliefs.
In order to earn extra comforts in prison (like chocolate etc) they had to work. The work was supplied by a local toy factory, who wanted them to pack little sets of plastic soldiers. They declined and were therefore denied the extras.
Oh and it was 1983 I'm talking about. Ooops. Paul was 2 in 1982...terrible 2....that year was just a blur of shouting, smacking and crying. Heh.

Man that sucks...do you suppose that they (the authorities) sat in some committee meeting and discussed what they could do that would be really really nasty to the Greenham Women?

"Hey fellas what about we make them clean toilets?"
"Nah, women do that all the time, they love doing it"
"How about sewing mailsacks? That'll ruin their hands"
"Hah - they're lesbians, what do they want soft hands for - they won't care"
"Hey guys, listen, this could be it. Suppose we tell them that in order to get privileges they have to pack....wait a minute what would be really mean...got it, plastic toy soldiers"
"Oh yeah - you are good - that is good"
"Yeeesss - score one for the boys team" Not

And as for the shouting etc, has it stopped yet? My daughter is having the terrible sixes!!! Will it ever end...
