[Mads seems to be doing nothing particularly suspicious. But considering who the man is, that's suspicious in and of itself. But he doesn't seem to be at all interested in any passersby, since he's reading an almanac from 1890 ( Read more... )

Veronica has been exploring the Keep rather slowly. Still convinced she was going to be attacked at any second, she's been trying to avoid going out too much. Today, she decided she was going to look through the library and take back as many books back to her cell as she could.

She has a few books already in her arms when she runs across Mads. She squinted at the book he was reading, trying to figure out why exactly he was reading that certain book.

[Her presence would be known, even without the use of his gift. He does not bother to look up.]

If you are curious, you only have to ask, ah, Veronica, was it?

[Veronica's eyes narrowed, but she shifted her books to a nearby table and placed her hands on her hips.]

Alright then. Why are you reading an almanac from 1890?

His interest seems to be solely on the book in his hands. Though in reality, he was only ensuring there was nothing else to be picked up from her. After a moment, he finally stops to look at her.

"Why not? I was not alive in 1980."

"But why is it so interesting to you? The 1800's weren't a very interesting time."

Maybe that was why Veronica always did terribly in her history classes.

"Perhaps not to you. But you live on the surface, do you not?"

He smiles.

Veronica raises an eyebrow, not quite managing to keep the confusion off her face, "Yeeeaaah."

And silently Veronica wonders if this guy was some weird conspiracy theorist living in a cave somewhere, because she still doesn't believe she's in a different world.

"Before I was brought here, I lived in an apartment."

He just laughs and goes back to his almanac. Her reaction to that is going to be hilarious.

Veronica's face goes blank for a moment in utter bewilderment before she frowns at Mads, "You make absolutely no sense."

Mads lowers his book, expression flat. "You thought I lived in a cave. I simply corrected you. What is hard to understand about that, amour?"

Veronica squints at Mads. She was positive she hadn't said that out loud, so how had he known?

"How did you know I was thinking that?"
