It had begun an everyday routine for Shige to wait for his doctor to take him out to garden or root-top. His doctor. It made Shige smile. It was truth, Yamashita Tomohisa is his doctor…no, he was more than a doctor to Shige. Tomohisa was a god sent gift to Shige.
Shige had spent half of his life at the hospital. He was born with this heart disease which he would eventually die for he had no match. As a young boy, he hated his life. God was too cruel to him, creating him with this fucked up disease. He wanted to have, to enjoy a normal and ordinary life as normal and ordinary boy who didn’t need to go to and fro between the house and hospital. Shige had a place where he could call home, of course. The place where his parents and he once lived together. He went to school like all other boys at his age…back then his disease wasn’t that bad. He wasn’t a socialize person, and nobody really wanted to be friends with a weak boy…they only wanted to bully him. However, he made few good friends there whom he missed very dearly now, because he couldn’t see them everyday.
His conditions got worsen till now he had to stay…no live in hospital all time and call it, his home. Then, he found out he was gonna die, if they couldn’t find a donor for him. He was in denial; he didn’t want to die yet.
But as days went by, he came to a point where he accepted his fate dejectedly. Maybe he had made a really bad deed in his past life that now in this life; he was punished with this heart disease and had no matched donor. He would not deny anymore that he was gonna die. He started to bury himself in the books, to have a wider knowledge of things that he could never learn. He was just content with the things he read in the books. He didn’t bother to make new friends in the hospital; so far he only talked to those nurses and doctors assigned at his floor. What the use of making or having more friends if he was not going to live a long life?
That was what he had thought until he met Yamashita Tomohisa. With Tomohisa, he started to have hopes, those hopes he had never imagined he would have before. He wanted things he had never wished for before. He wanted to see the world outside with Tomohisa; he wanted to get to know Tomohisa better. And Shige was trying very hard with the less amount of time he had. He sometimes wondered what it would be like to stay longer and be with Tomohisa forever. And happiness, only Tomohisa could give him. Shige found himself not hating his life, his disease or the god or the fact that he was gonna die. His life was wonderful with Tomohisa. If it wasn’t for the disease and hospital, he wouldn’t be meeting with Tomohisa who was a doctor, right? And he had accepted the fact that he was gonna die but with a bitter defeat. But after he met Tomohisa, he was happy. If he could die in the hands of this doctor, he wouldn’t mind. He was happy to die, because with Tomohisa, his life was completed and he couldn’t wish for more. But to tell the truth, he did wish for more…he wanted to be with Tomohisa for ever. Seeing Tomohisa trying so hard to find a donor for him, warmed Shige’s heart. God didn’t hate or neglect him after all. God sent Tomohisa to him before he died, so that Shige would experience pure happiness and true love. He was glad.

“How is your day, Shige?” Doctor Tomohisa asked, smiling softly.
“It’s great.” Since you’re here.
“That’s good, then.” Tomohisa said. “Listen, I’ll come back tonight. I’m quite busy right now, so see ya.” With that the doctor bent down and planted a kiss on Shige’s forehead. “Oh and I have a surprise for you.”
Before Shige could process what just happened, Tomohisa was gone, out of the room.
He reached out to touch his forehead; the warmth of his doctor’s lips was still there.
Shige waited for him. As the sun went down lower and lower, Shige’s heart beat faster and faster. Tomohisa was gonna be there anytime soon.
Shige was more excited about seeing Tomohisa than the surprise latter had for him.
When the night came, he noticed that that night was a full moon. The moon light beamed into his room through the only large window near his bed.
Shige checked the clock and it was almost ten but Tomohisa wasn’t there yet.
Maybe he is busy. He promised me. He will surely come.
He tried his best not to fall asleep. But it was hard, to sit alone in the dark, doing nothing…Shige didn’t feel like switching on the light. He liked to just stay with the moonlight.
Shige dozed off without realizing.

“Hey, sleeping beauty, get up.”
Shige felt being nudged on the shoulder and groaned.
“Hey, wake up or else I’ll kiss you.” That sounded like Tomohisa’s. It must be a dream.
Shige pouted his lips, waiting for a kiss to come.
Silence….. Shige’s pout grew.
Chuckles. “Come on, get up Shige.”
Shige jumped up as fingers pinched his stomach. Upon opening his eyes, Shige found a pair of caring eyes. He blinked. “Tomohisa-kun?”
“Yeah, that’s me. Get up, let’s go and see your surprise.”
Shige’s face broke into a wide grin before he remembered what he just did and blushed. It wasn’t a dream…he was really pouting his lips for Tomohisa to kiss. Did Tomohisa see it?
Shige was so deep in thought that he only noticed he was blindfolded when all his vision went black.
“Just follow me, k?”
And Shige was being lifted off from the bed and to the wheelchair.

Shige felt a rush of cold breeze and he shivered. Where are they?
“Cold?” Tomohisa’s voice was so close to him.
Shige nodded his head.
Seconds later, he was covered by something which felt like a coat.
“Ne, Where are we?”
“We are very far above from the ground.” Tomohisa said as he started untying the blindfold.
“Isn’t it beautiful?”
Shige’s jaw dropped and eyes widened. They were on the rooftop and the moon was shinning brightly. And it wasn’t all. When Tomohisa stepped aside to let Shige see what he was blocking, Shige gasped. There laid a table with two chairs, facing each other. A small lamp which almost shaded like a candle was placed at the middle of the round table. There were two glasses of wine with a wine bottle and cake…Shige wanted to laugh CAKE!!!
“Sorry, I can’t use the real candle or the light will be blown off. And I can’t really decide on what food so, I settled on the cake.” Tomohisa rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.
Shige looked up and met the man’s eyes. He gave him a grateful smile.
“It’s ok. I really like it. And I love cake.”
Tomohisa grinned. “Then let’s start our candle light dinner…ah I mean dessert?”
“Sure.”

“Why all these?”
After they had finished eating the chocolate cake, Shige started questioning.
“You wanna know the truth or a completely obvious lie?”
Shige cocked a brow, “Truth, of course.”
Tomohisa breathed in and then out. He seemed to be trying to gather his courage.
Shige was curious.
That was when Tomohisa’s phone went off.
“Ah, one sec.” Tomohisa looked apologetics but when he looked at the mobile and saw the ID, his look turned into those of annoyed.
“What?” He asked, flipping open the phone.
“Rooftop. Why?”
“Yeah, with him.”
“Don’t worry. He’s fine.”
Tomohisa snorted. “Hey brother, he is my patient and I’m his doctor. I know what I’m doing. Now, stop nagging me and go back home. I’ll be home late. Ja.”
He hung up, flipping the phone close.
From the one-sided conversation he heard, Shige assumed it was Tomohisa’s twin.
“Your brother?”
“Yeah.”
“What did he say?”
“He freaked out that I took a patient over to the rooftop at night when it’s freezing cold. He said, I’m an idiot to think of such thing, having candle light dinner on the rooftop.”
Shige laughed. “You sure are.”
The doctor pouted. “But you enjoyed it, right?”
“Yeah. An idiot you may be but I like each and every idiotic thing you do.” Shige said, whole-heartedly.
Tomohisa grinned, please with himself. “I’ve to tell my bro, how much you like it.”
“Is your bro like you?”
Tomohisa shook his head. “We’re totally poles apart. We are very different. I’ll let you meet him someday. I’m surprised you don’t know him although he too works here.”
“I’m not very good with making friends or getting to know other people.”
“But you are good with me.”
“Hmm.”
“‘Because I’m special?”
“Think what you want.”
Tomohisa reached out to ruffle the young boy’s short hair. “You are so cute.”
“Huh?”
“Know why I brought you here?”
“Why?”
Everything went quiet. Shige could hear his own heart beat getting louder and louder with every passing second.
“Remember that kiss?” Finally Tomohisa broke the silence.
Shige slowly nodded his head.
Tomohisa suddenly looked uncomfortable. He shifted in his chair before looking straight into Shige’s eyes.
“All those. All those kisses and stuff…I did those because I…” Tomohisa took a deep breath.
Shige hold his breath, waiting for the words to come out of Tomohisa’s mouth.
“I love you.”
