Yes, why yes it is. You know, when I was living US I walked in on a gay bashing session out on Campus. Some things are the smae everywhere I s'pose. Having said that, I acknowledge that America is a big place & I am actrively considering alternatives to here... how would a scary lookin' dyke be rcv'd in your neighbourhood? What I need is a quiet community where I can feel more at home. I remember the States fondly on most other counts.
Just when you think TV couldn't possibly sink any lower, they go ahead and add a tripple level sub-basement just for the hell of it.
Sometimes I think it would be better to live in a country that didn't try to hide it's hatred in "family entertainment" but instead just did it out in the open. At least then you would know who to avoid in the streets.
I agree... what gets to me the most is that _I_ am considered (by default) to be scary & threatening. I admit it occassionally can have benefits, but on the whole it's de-humanising. If this counrty was so far ups it's own ass in denile, perhaps I could feel less like the 'Boogie Man'...
*hangs head* I saw some of that, too . . .mossmeowSeptember 16 2004, 17:53:45 UTC
Not to mention the fact that being gay on the show is equated with being a bad person - the words "gay", "deceiver", "two-faced" were pretty much used interchangably. The girl was trying to work out who her "friends" and who her "enemies" were - guess which was which?
I have actively avoided watching it for all these reasons! A former language lecturer of mine was fond of ascribing special places in hell for people who committed grievous translation sins.
There is a special place reserved in hell for the inventor/s and perpetuators of reality television, as well as the crowded accommodations already existing for the homophobes.

In most of the state, not well, I'm sad to say.
