You read the whole Dark Tower series, right? I'm on the 4th (Wizard and Glass) and am about to give up. I dislike this particular book immensely. It started out ok, but then decayed into this sappy romance (this coming from a girl who liked The Notebook) worthy of only being on the same shelf as my mom's trashy romance novels. I'm embarrassed that King used the word "maidenhead" about 50 times so far, and I wouldn't dare let anyone read this over my shoulder. Yet, on Amazon, everyone says this is their favorite one in the series. So essentially, I don't want to plunge through 300+ more pages of cheesy girl-loses-virginity-to-first-love crap, but I don't know that I want to forsake this series altogether. Do the rest of the books redeem this one?
Wizard and Glass is DEFINITELY the weak link in the series. It is so drawn out, and you like the characters from the main storyline so much that you wish they were in it instead, and the ending after the flashback is bizarre and kind of abrupt. The ending to the flashback itself is cool though and neat enough. BUT, what you get rewarded with after that are the last 3 books. And they are all solid and awesome. Basically Wolves of the Callah starts out a set of events that keep rolling until the series ends. After 4 he didn't publish another Dark Tower book for 15 years, but had the last 3 all out in 18 months. 5 is basically a nostalgia trip where the characters are all getting a little down time before the shit hits the fan. But it's infinitely more enjoyable than 4. If you stick with the series past Wizard and Glass it's definitely worth it.
Fabulous! Maybe I won't forsake the series after all. Then again, Wizard and Glass was the last in the series that I could buy for under $10. I ain't spending 20+ of my hard earned dough on one book, so I may be waiting until the cheaper copies of the last three show up.
PS - thanks for the MySpace add. pink hair, eh? That's bold. Not even I have ever had pink hair.
