Earlier that day, Troy had found a magazine on the bookshelf. And not just any magazine, but an Entertainment Weekly about the Avengers movie that was supposed to come out next year back home. And maybe he hadn't realized before, but one of the dudes in the movie-- the guy playing The Hulk, actually-- was Mark Ruffalo. Mark Ruffalo. He didn't know ( Read more... )

When Jeff was bored, he usually went to the Compound. It was about the only place close to a normal, civilized area on this entire island, and sometimes he needed that. He'd just sat down with an old GQ magazine the bookshelf offered up and a cup of coffee when he noticed Troy rush into the room out of the corner of his eye. Lifting a brow when he looked over, he looked between the caged animal, Troy, and back again.

"That isn't wild, is it?" he asked. He knew Troy missed that monkey he used to have, but who the hell knew what kind of diseases the the ones on the island might have?

It had been really hard, carrying the cage all the way up to the compound. For starters, it was just large enough that Troy couldn't get a decent grip on it, and secondly, after just a few steps, the monkey had started screeching those loud monkey screeches. It was awesome when they did that in movies, but this was pretty much the opposite of that.

"Jeff, the island's turned Annie into a monkey," Troy said, eyes wide. If anyone knew how this weird island stuff worked, it'd be Jeff. He'd been around the longest out of all of them

The monkey screeched again, somehow louder than it had before.

"Shut up, Annie! I'm trying to help you!"

Jeff just stared at him a long moment, trying to decide how to even respond to that.

"Wait, what?" he asked, putting aside his magazine to stand up. He'd been on the island too long is what he's definitely sure of, because the fact that he can't completely and immediately rule out something like what he's claiming is kind of worrying. The monkey seemed to only screech louder as he approached, so he stopped moving in an attempt to keep it from getting even more agitated. "Why do you think that is Annie?"

Troy set the cage down on one of the tables with a large thump, and the monkey seemed to settle a little.

"Oh, I don't know Jeff, maybe because it was in Annie's room, I can't find her anywhere, and the monkey's name tag says 'Annie.'" Troy said, matter-of-factly.

This wasn't a time to argue, they had to figure out how they could get Annie turned back into a human. There were some things that monkeys did that you could not come back from.
