i've spent hours this afternoon requesting information from various colleges and emailing admissions departments with specific requests for information about studying sustainable agriculture at said institution. the university of vermont fails in new and exciting ways. my email, their reply, and my subsequent reply all follow.
Hello!
I am considering applying to UVM for transfer in the 2007 spring semester. My main interest is in sustainable, organic agriculture and I would like to know what coursework, research opportunities, and internships are available in this field at UVM. My ultimate goal is to own and operate a small, diverse, organic, and sustainable farm and also to be an active member in my community. I see that UVM's CALS offers majors like Animal Science, Community and International Development, and Environmental Sciences, but it seems that the information I am interested in most is spread out among different majors. I would appreciate it if you would send me any pertinent information on CALS, sustainable agriculture at UVM, and transferring to UVM. I would also appreciate if you would suggest to me professors and current students with whom I can communicate personally about studying at UVM and specifically about sustainable agriculture. My mailing address and contact information is [removed from the lj verson, but the email included full name, mailing address, phone, and email address].
Thank you! and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Adrienne

http://www.uvm.edu Please re-read my original request. Your reply states that "we need additional information" and you specifiy that the information should include "your legal name, permanent mailing address, date of birth, semester you plan to attend, and area of academic interest (if any)." My original email included all of that information except for my date of birth. I was born on the 1st of April, 1986. I will also fill out the online information request form now; it is not easily accessible from the UVM website, nor is it readily apparent that the online request form even exists. My original email requesting information is copied below.
Thank you,
Adrienne
