computer debate

over at the simon's rock community lj, there's a thread about macs v. pcs. i may be a freak, but i love this debate over hardware, and i love debating the merits of different operating systems. i thought about trying to add to the debate, but i honestly don't know enough to be helpful. here is the thread: Read more... )

Modern linux systems, particularly recent distributions of Red Hat, Ubuntu, Suse, and Debian, are becoming much more user friendly. Many applications are basically plug and play, and they are becoming more and more intuitive. The main drawback is that the operating system still needs customization to be really useful and it has limitations primarily because both windows and macintosh use proprietary file formats and don't like to play nice with open source linux distros. (and lets not forget that open source PR and advertising never works well ( ... )

*grin* i'd try that, if my family wanted linux. they're a bit set in their ways. it's ok; they don't know enough about computers for it to matter that much.
