Yes, exactly. The longer he stays away, the harder it will be to go back. Things will not be the same, and the longer it goes, the more they will change. Hopefully the three years of the original books will be considerably shortened!

Oh this is very lovely indeed - I haven't seen a post-Fall take like this before; looking at Sherlock actually feeling a bit bitter about being slowly put behind people, and particularly his pain at John's grief but equally his pain as the grief starts to ease. Blimey it's good!
